El Presidente Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 EAR= Email Assistance Required. "the behike are a case in point. 2010 Behike on the secondary appear to comand a 20% premium on say a 2012. Is this generally the case with first releases? The Cohiba Siglo VI from 2003 is another example. Were both cigars any better than the production year following or is it all a case of hype? You made a comment last week on 2014 H. Upmann Number 2 which are now being chased down by all of my cigar circle. Hype again, urban legend? any other tips? " Good one to kick around.
Popular Post MrBirdman Posted June 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 1, 2023 I feel that Cuba is too inconsistent for any year to consistently be special enough for a large premium. I’ve bought 2014 boxes (a “good year”) that are weaker than any of the 19-20 boxes I have in the cigar even with the age advantage (e.g. Siglo II) Modest premium, sure. Just understand there’s no guarantee that will translate into heightened quality. 5
Popular Post NSXCIGAR Posted June 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 1, 2023 Those examples are very special cases. OR BHK, 03 VI, TEB Boli, 14 HU 2, 12 Lanceros, OR RAS or 15-16 BCG are all one-offs that are very unique. If you know CCs you know what they are. The vast majority of CCs are not those and won't get a premium from me other than what people would pay for age. I'd agree with @MrBirdman that there is no "magic year" for vintage CCs in general although 19-22 has been well above the 20-year average for quality in general. If it's 2040 and I'm picking a random box blind I'm probably going 19-22. 10

NSXCIGAR Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Hmm, not many. Reinforces that they're case by case unique. 04 BGM? 02 RGCE maybe?
LordAnubis Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 08 I thought was a good year for RASS, D4 and the now discontinued punch RS12. Admittedly not had many of the RS12 outside of the 04-08 years. I generally go by 04, 08, 12-14, and 20-23 as decent eras within the last 20 years. Chasing at premium prices? That’s a rich man’s game. People with money will chase what they want. If the right buyer was lined up to see your OR BHK then you’d make a pretty penny. If the right buyers weren’t looking it’d pass in or sell much lower than you’re expecting.
BrightonCorgi Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 '03 had a lot of great stuff of bye gone cigars like Monarch's and the LGC's. Finding any box code of them is a premium. I don't put a premium on aged cigars. That's what I bought an Aristocrat for. I'd buy aged cigars at the same price if the vendor gave them a thumbs up. A little mold never bothered me. 1

Original 2017 release QdO No 50 come to mind as a recent example that fits the criteria. I have a few left from a BRO NOV 17 box that are the top No 50 I've ever had, and I know a lot of others feel the same. It seems like even though 19-22 were a few crushing years for all CCs, those 17s are pure class
El Hoze Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Not sure it’s relevant, but I have heard people reference 2003 HdM DD. I have had plenty of 2003 DD and smoked a 50 cab and the cigars were arguably very good but I can’t say I would outright chase them like a wine collector might. I have also smoked a few boxes of LUB 14 HU2, a box code people swear by. I smoke alot of HU2s and again I would not disagree they were fantastic boxes but not like your eyes are going to roll back in your head. I also have a box of HU2 Reservas. Those will make your eyes roll back in your head. 3
joeypots Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 I had a cab of RASS ’06 that was stunning. My stash isn’t as wide or old as many but I have to say the ’14 Siglo IV and MC#2 were up there with the best I’ve owned. I’ve had mixed luck buying aged stock and for quite a while I’ve bought and hoarded good quality regular production. Given the current price increases from Cuba I think the risk of chasing high end aged cigars Is significant.
DaBoot Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 I’m not chasing aged, but at this point the new production is at an aged pricing anyway. 2014 was a great year. And any bolivar MSU ‘18 and ‘19 are stellar.
Justins123 Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 01-03 SLR DCs for sure. Any of the skinny LGCs from 02.
Tdm_86 Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 For me, personally, I don’t pay a premium for aged cigars. Don’t have the money to do so, but even if I did I wouldn’t. I have been fortunate enough to have smoked quite a few highly aged (more than 30 years) cigars and countless out of my own stash between 5 and 15 years. I just don’t think the gains are worth paying a premium for. This might be because I’m too poor and care about value. Also, I’ve found that many aged cigars aren’t even better to my palate, just different. Going through a box at intervals and smoking them all when they taste best is most enjoyable to me
Chibearsv Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 BRC and BPC MSU 2018 - not so aged but exceptionally good 3

I went through around 6 boxes of those faster than Grant took Richmond, not knowing that cigarmegeddon was coming. I also stocked up on the TUA Boli from '21. If they put a red dot on them, so much the better! 1

Still flavorsome and has just become extraordinarily refined and gentle. Very special but I'm not sure regular fans of BPC will like it. These don't have that strong leather/burnt coffee thing going on. Much more like a great BCJ. I went to grab another box this week but could only find MSU NOV 18. Sounds like I'll be fine. 1 hour ago, Digi said: 05 PSP2? Not sure if they were truly great or they were just being compared to what came after. On 6/2/2023 at 4:32 AM, Perla said: SdO No 3 What's that? You mean LGC MdO No. 3 or Party SdC No. 3?
