In July Hamlet and I will be both in the factory blending the Flying Pig which will be our second last cigar of the year.

Between the various lines, that means that we will finish the year with:

Canonazo      (Produced and released).

Lancero         (Produced and awaiting release)

Carlota           (Produced and awaiting release)

Petit Corona   (Produced and awaiting release)

Spada Gorda ( 46 gauge).  (In Production)

Queen Corona  (slightly longer corona 42 gauge)     (July Production)

Fat Fundy(44 gauge)     (August Production)

Petit 109     (August Production)

109             (August Production)

Flying Pig.   (September production)

Churchill      (November production)

We wanted a Perfecto in the lineup and hence the Flying Pig which is one of Hamlet's calling cards.

Art did an excellent review of a 2011 Hamlet Flying Pig.

YOU CAN READ IT HERE

There is really no "standard" for a Flying Pig.

From Art's article.

"The 2011 Hamlet Flying pig measures in at 6.5 inches. The foot of the cigar is a 56 ring gauge and slims down to a 52 ring gauge at the head of the cigar."

I would like to change this a little and would like your input.

Shorten it.

Length    5. 1/4 inches.

Foot        48  gauge.

Head       54  gauge

This would be a Perfecto that would meet the need of a Robusto moment. I am not concerned about the blend. However we need to make moulds at some point and I would rather get your input before we go too far down that rabbit hole.

Feel free to put forward your own suggestions.  CAD/draw them up if you like. Sell it to me baby :D

All those vitolas in skinnier ring guages. I had better ask the bank for a loan!

Any chance the Flying Pig could be sold in bundles of around 10? I don't think I could commit to a full 25.

It makes little sense to do so. Hopefully by the end of the year there will be 5 pack samplers for all at a slightly higher per stick pricepoint.

What is the history behind the name "flying pig" and the vitola shape/size? This is not a Havana thing is it?

x 2 here and I would imagine there would be a few of us here that would concur. That AF Hemingway Work of Art size is ideal because it's deceptively smaller than one realises, but still takes a good 100 to 120 minutes to smoke down.

Call me old fashioned, but I still have a few of Hamlet’s Flying Pigs and think the size is perfect for that cigar.

I missed this lineup and production schedule before. Well done sir!  Looking forward to some samplers across the board. What a great selection. These will do well.

Could it be like a Britanicas Extra, with a Cabeza tombada both ends, one with a pigtail?

This is a really outstanding idea/input.
love the original Britanicas Extra format in the RA RE Suiza. The haptic feeling is great, size perfect, it’s impossible to smoke the cigar too hot. Nice savoury smoke. Great idea from you @99call🫶

Ha, I have a secret agenda,  I'm just slowly by slowly trying to get a Nudies 'Fancy tales of Smoke'

Is a flying pig there same thing as a butifarra?

Had a few custom rolls a while back. Very nice they were too.

I like the short stumpy sizes. Like the short story. Bit bigger one would be good. Like Johnny's

Looking at the vitolas and making assumptions about the length of each I think 5.25” would fill out the line up nicely. If you are looking to make a tour de force figurados, making the contrasting RGs a little smaller and larger would give the cigar a more dramatic presentation.  So, I agree, an AF Work of Art type vitola at 5.25” would be a great addition to the catalog.

Agree with this as well. I love what fuente has done with these. In general I’d vote for somewhere around 5” in length. In terms of ring gauge, I think for me it really comes down to mouthfeel. So it’s not so much about the general girth of the cigar but specifically the part you draw from. For me personally I don’t really like anything above 50.

I think 4.5 inches is perfect for the nomenclature. 54 to 48 is fine, I'd say maybe even 52 head 46 foot I agree with other that the smaller fuentesque size is better than the fat Jonathan Drew sizes

Agree this would be a good vitola. I’ve had a few Work of Art sticks. Wasn’t sure I’d go for the size at first, but ended up thinking it was A-OK, then bought more.

5 1/4 and 48/54 would be nice too.

I like this idea. I would still be interested in the idea laid out in the initial post, but having the tapered ends with a little smaller size is more appealing to me.

I for one would prefer something really rustic akin to a Partagas Presidente.

I really love that size and format not too wide not overly tapered more like a Petite Corona meets Figarado. I'm sure I'll be happy to support whatever comes out, just what I would like to see.
