At any one time it is said that one-quarter to one-third of regular production Habanos cigars is in hiatus. As there are 212 current regular production cigars at the time of writing (69 pre-1960 cigars, 120 post-1960 cigars and 23 La Casa del Habanos and Habanos Specialist cigars), you have to agree, that's quite a number of cigars (something like 53 to 71 cigars currently, based on that cited figure). But what exactly makes the LGC MdO4 so popular? I believe there are three reasons; firstly, it's a slim panatela vitola, one of the last of its kind in regular production (apart from the Por Larranaga Montecarlos), secondly, its the last regular production La Gloria Cubana cigar left (if you don't count the LCDH Inmensos, Piramides and Robusto Extra releases) and lastly, it tends to be a wonderfully complex cigar.

This Medaille d'Or No.4 was indeed wonderfully complex. Gifted by @Luca (thank you kindly) and from circa 2016, the first third was all almond nut and fruit flavours, whilst the middle third saw more woody characteristics and the last third picked up in pepper. In the meantime, it was very, very satisfying.

When will the La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 come back, I hear you say? The last box codes confirmed on our forum were a little over two years ago (around March 2018). Your guess is as good as mine. One thing I can say, the reason for hiatuses is not always due to leaf quality or lack thereof. Sometimes its packaging issues and alternatively it can be a combination of both. Here's hoping they return soon!

Went out to target marlin. Only had visual on 1 though unfortunately. Managed to land 12 yellow fin tuna, 4 mahi mahi and 1 barracuda. So was a fruitful trip.

Brand new, ROTT box of Siglo IV from EMP ENE 20. These have fairly dark, mottled and even slightly rosado wrappers. Incredible smell at cold: sweet citrus spice, deep bass note, powerful aroma. Spark it up: wham, right to business. This smokes more like a linea classica cigar, actually a lot like some full-on Esplendidos I have from TPO ABR 18. Medium-full bodied, sweet (mandarin) fruit and richness, plus coffee and a touch of fungal earth. Decent burn given that it’s so very young. Really impressive but will need a loooong sleep before showing any elegance.

Small world and long odds - Please let me know what you think of the 18's whenever you open them.  My 18's were put in the humi on 06/27 so, I'll wait until the end of September before trying another one to give them adequate time to acclimate.  After @Devo and I tried one ROTT - I ordered two more boxes of the same box codes but, they haven't arrived yet.  I hope they will develop into something special!

Even with a cracked head, love these Pacificos.  Cedar, molten milk chocolate and a slight cherry undernote. 

Enjoyed an always excellent birthday dinner at Capital Grille.  Short de Punch for desert.

It was very enjoyable. I little rough around the edges in the second third. The final third was almost creamy. The last 1.5” showed it youth. I picked up two boxes of these and I’m really happy about that. I imagine I’ll smoke though them relatively quickly.

Bolívar Gold Medal were produced in limited runs and not continued. The 2007 Partagás Culebras, 2008 Partagás Salomones, 2009 H. Upmann Noellas and 2010 Ramón Allones Allones Superiores were amongst the first LCdH releases to benefit from the 2011 change in policy and hence have been in regular production ever since.

This was a nice, complex smoking experience. It began with refined baking spice or floral notes dominating. In the middle third the cigar was more woody until the final third when it was mainly vegetal. In between, the Ramon Allones stewed fruit or Christmas cake flavours were very much present and to the fore, yet I appreciated the mildness, with the cigar being just under 6 years of age.

For me, this was a stupendous example of a Ramon Allones cigar. Then again, I am highly impartial to quality aged and mild Habanos cigars!
