Popular Post El Presidente
I made the mistake of watching the 6 oclock news this evening. Bloody hell. Covid, politics, climate change, public debt, racial disharmony, crime, Taliban. That was the opening 15 minutes. What outsde of your cigars is your escape from all this madness? Where do you find your corner of peace, your sanctuary of sanity? What past time helps keep you sane and your spirits high? Have you immersed yourself in a hobby or delved into a new set of practices? I know there are members doing it mentally tough right now. Your post may provide that first rung to step out of the deep.
Popular Post cgoodrich
My job keeps me busy, CNC machine tool field service engineer. Then it’s working with the wifey in the yard and garden after work and on the weekends. When I have the time I do a bit of amateur woodworking and carving with traditional hand tools, very cathartic. My “crooked” spoons and letter opener out of an old plum tree wood I harvested from my property. I let the twisted grain tell me how to shape it… 26
Popular Post griller
Put me outside manning the grill. Charcoal is my preference, but gas will do if that's in place. I live in the southeastern US (Tennessee) and have been known to get the fire going in sub freezing weather or 100+ degree high humidity days. It's also the perfect cigar opportunity, and I tend to select based on the time I'll be cooking. It seems like Corona gordas tend to be my "go to" size, but robustos and churchills/lanceros find there way to the action, too.
Popular Post Chibearsv
I find television news terrible to watch. I'll just read the paper in the morning to get my snippet of news and do the NY times crossword every morning and get the brain engaged. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that golf, crossword puzzle solving, and gambling on farm animals can be dangerous hobbies to get into if you're looking for sanity but I enjoy them all.
Popular Post CommanderJWBond
I have started longer bicycle rides and painting with pastels. But another thing that worked out surprisingly well was gardening/weeding while listening to modern French radio. I don’t speak French well, but just being able to get lost in the music while doing manual labor works wonder for me.

Popular Post Puros Y Vino
Weather permitting, I'm outside in my backyard sanctuary with a cigar or reading and listening to music. Other than that I'll call up my buddy and do some online gaming.

Tomatoes, beans, peas, lettuce, broccoli, squash, zucchini, cucumber, watermelons, cantaloupe, honeydew, bell peppers, chili peppers and raspberries. 33
Popular Post Corylax18
Yeah, the news sucks. I haven't had Cable for almost 6 years, I don't miss it for 1 second. I have an over the air antenna for most football(NFL) games and I'll go to a friends or one of my brothers for the big games. Try Smoking weed. The right amount, of the right kind, at the right time, makes everything better. I'm very tightly wound by nature, so a little "unwinding" is actually good. I love manual labor (as an escape) Firewood processing being my favorite. I cut beetle kill on some property that my friend and I own up in the mountains. Buck it with my chain saw, then split and stack it by hand. Between the cabin, my buddies house and Mine, I do about 5 cords a year. Real cords, not "face" cords. I can focus 100% on the task at hand and block out the entire rest of the world for hours, its wonderful. Add the fresh mountain air, and the full body work out and its one of my favorite things to do. I also love to hunt. 7-10 days way back in the wilderness, no cellphone access, no internet, no distractions. It doesn't really matter what. White tail, Mulies, Elk, Bear, Moose, Pronghorn, Caribou, Turkey, Upland game birds have all been great foes in the past. I would love to hunt in Africa too. Fresh air and hard work never hurt anyone. I often find myself dreading the return to "normalcy" during the last few days of the hunt.

Popular Post Islandboy
Without a doubt, mountain biking over the last 25 years has kept me sane and living life. There is no better travel companion, therapy or personal trainer, IMO. Here’s a collection of my bikes and BMI's over the years, starting with my trusty 2000 Cannondale Jeckyl Lefty:

Popular Post El Hoze
This about sums it up for me these days (other than family and hanging with my 2 1/2 year old little buddy): Fishing, perfectly made margaritas (one a day usually), cooking (lots of steaks and crispy smash burgers lately), cars that serve no purpose other than driving fast in them, skiing/snowboarding, traveling, and drinking (preferably all three together as in the last pic). I also work out but I don’t have a fun picture for that, happens away from the cameras!
Popular Post Rhinoww
No tv news is no 1. Too inflammatory on any station. Ah the days when there was news without a “perspective”. beyond cigars, I have lots of hobbies - woodworking, lots of home improvement projects gardening(vegetable), bourbon, old convertibles (have an MB 380sl which I tinker with), we have a pool so that’s a time hole for maintenance and hanging out, and we just built a covered porch which is an island of tranquility in and of itself. I should add that our rescue cat has been a surprising great addition to the family. COVID still sucks though. Would love to see some live music.
Popular Post Habana Mike
Picked up an antique classic car to keep me occupied in my semi-retirement. Working on getting a lift and full toolset/cabinet for the new garage. I'll have many pleasurable moments working on the car, both preventive maintenance, which it requires a good amount of, and repairs when necessary. That and the wind in my hair, sun on my face and a huge smile whenever I get it out for a cruise on A1A. Really missed being able to actually work on a car since I sold my old Mustang.
Popular Post WLC
First off, turn off the news. My "happy place" is usually outside. Whether working in the yard, garden, building something, fishing or just sitting and relaxing I'm most content when outside.
Baccy
I can't watch the mainstream media anymore, I just can't do it. It gives you brain damage. I used to enjoy sports and even racing but now those political movements have wedged their way into those activities as well. It's so very sad. I stick to hobbies these days mainly making music😎
Popular Post Meesterjojo
Sleep, drives through the mountains, planning our homestead, and smoking cigars. I find I can just blankly zone out while smoking and watching the perfect blue skies over the mountains. And lately this insanely wet rainy season here with the heavy drops on the metal roof is relaxing. I guess the other thing that occupies me lately is organizing my cigars. Something satisfying about fretting over them. I wish I had a wonderful garden as I've seen some of yall have. But that'll be next year. This year it's cigar harvest.
targa88
Never any good news... so I abstain from watching/reading.... Use to travel more and that was the intent in retirement - do even more... That being said. I equate therapeutic value in clearing your mind. Fortunate to have some hobbies. I came to the conclusion, that you should discover them before you retire. Get the necessary equipment and training to enjoy them - while you can afford to! Particular hobbies that facilitate that: Long range/High power rifle. Shooting out to 1000 yards. You are not thinking about anything else than the target and reading the wind. That combined with reloading for precision - focus! Mountain/trail biking. When it is possible (seasonal). Typically during the week when there are less folks. More technical or difficult trails require more concentration. The art of the barbecue: in particular charcoal and smoking. Not a precise science.... When I was younger, I suppose I had the need for speed - so I use to road race (motorcycle and vintage sports car) - that has passed. A nice drive in the countryside. We often take for granted what we literally have in our backyard
Cairo
I have written on this topic before--my grandmother (who lived to be 106 with no significant health issues) hated television, refused to watch it, and mocked me whenever she saw me doing it. Terence McKenna quote: Television is by nature the dominator drug par excellence. Control of content, uniformity of content, repeatability of content make it inevitably a tool of coercion, brainwashing, and manipulation. The outdoors is the antidote--when the weather is warm enough, that means bare feet on the grass, with a dog by my side, working in the garden.
Popular Post DanWil84
I don't watch news anymore, you just don't know what to believe anymore, it might be ignorant but I would like to make my own view of the world. Even some papers don't believe in true journalism anymore. I'm very invested in family life, almost everything in my free time is about my wife and kids. Now there both in school, I get a bit more time. I like to go camping about 7 or 8 times a year, I love skiing about 1 or 2 times a year (mostly one week or maybe a long weekend). I'll have to get a bit more active, so after holidays I'm back to the gym again. Verstuurd vanaf mijn VOG-L29 met Tapatalk
Akela3rd
I avoid TV and Internet news - too subjective. A newspaper once a week about does it for me, at least you can apply your own filters.Away from that fishing, my trusty mountain bike, Scouting and I've just started open water swimming at the lake near where I now live.
