How have the class of 2014 performed?

Two questions actually

1. How have 2014 cigars performed in general

2. How have the three 2014 LE cigars evolved in terms of flavour. In your opinion, which has been the standout cigar?

  •  Cohiba Robusto Supremo
  • Bolivar Super Corona
  • Partagás Seleccíon Privada Edición Limitada

3. Which of the above has performed best on the secondary market?

More importantly, 5 years down and we should by now be able to assess how 2014  was in general for Cuban cigare.

Let us know your thoughts and where it stands in your mind. If you have a favourite 2014 cigar, call it out .

Question 3 is a no brainer - the Cohiba has performed best in the secondary market. The Boli the worst - I had the hardest time selling my box for $600.

Great topic. I got more heavily into cigars in 2015, and I'm glad I did. I don't smoke a ton, though I bought a lot at the time, and so much of my stock is 2014. I've always shied away from LEs, so I can't speak to those (though I Like REs), but have generally been quite pleased with my '14 stock. I remember lots of concerns at the time (which seems to continue) about aging potential, but I think those have been shown unfounded. Overall,  I give 2014 two thumbs up.

ULA '14 BRC all the way for me! They were stellar from the get go. I think I went through one box in about six months, one on the go now and another two in the deeper recesses of storage. I'm not usually given to going deep(ish) on specifics but this was one time I made a decision to do so and I'd like to think I was right.

2014s were/are stellar. ULA was a prolific code and I've enjoyed and am still enjoying many sticks from various boxes. Boli RCs smoked well and long gone. Mag 46s delicious. QdO Coronas bang-on right now. On other codes Famosos, JLo 1 and 2, Libertadors, D4s, La Fuerzas, all great plus many more I can't recall.

Q2 I can't answer as I only smoked singles of the LEs at 3 years of age. My Xmas tradition.

For Q3, let's just say my boxes of 10 CoRo Supremos are each worth the same as an aged cab of 50 Double Coronas! Anyone want to trade 50 SLR for 10 Supremos? ? No?

Speaking of ULA, I managed to pick some DIC14 BRC and JUN14 boli tubos2 last year. BRC have been somewhat average but the no2s have been great. Nougat/chocolate, sweet cream, soft leather.
Can’t recall anything special about the 2014 in general. They were good but so was the year before and after, at least that’s what my memory says..
Never tried the EL but I have a Boli and party that have been acclimatizing for 5 years now.. Time does fly!

LUB May 14 HUPC are very good. Construction and flavor are excellent and I suspect these cigars have long legs.

UME AGO 14 CORO are OK. Not the best box, but I knew it when I bought them.

I'm having great luck with 2013s.  The boxes I'm hitting hard are RASS, MC#2, and Siglo IV and all of these are very good.

The 2014 Monte 2s I got from the PCC aged 24:24 are stellar.

Before this box came, I had just been discussing how Monte 2s are so inconsistent, but when they are good, they are REALLY good.

I smoked 1 right off the truck, and it was amazing.  Everything you would expect a great Monte 2 to be.  Then I expected that the first one, just happened to be the best one in the box, by dumb luck.  Well, now I have already smoked 4 of them, and they have all been great.  And just to make sure it wasn’t just me, I brought one to @ElJavi76 and basically forced him to smoke it on the spot, and he agreed with my assessment.

Secondary on those Cohiba fatties is way up there.

I don't ever come across the Bolis. My fave of those 3 is certainly the Partagas. Good now, but so much potential.

Agree with that LUB run in 14/15...everything has been fire.

I purchased quite a few boxes of the Supremo ranging from D grade yellow sticks to some sensational sticks when I split a box with JohnS .

The Privado  and the Super Corona were a major disapointment.2 boxes of each

LUB MAY 14 an excellent box code for Upamann , best code , best year for me for Upmann. No 2 in particular.

ARG MAR 14 an excellent code for Montecristo. Especially Petit Edmundo.

Now I am going from memory here as I am not at home POU MAY 14 Monte Tubos....stunning, I still have two boxes for rainy days .

These were a couple of outstanding codes for me.

The only ones I have had the chance to smoke from that list are the Partagas Selection Privada.  Those were the ones that got me back into cigars, this forum, and the cigar obsession that currently rules my life.  So I guess what I am saying is that I like the 2014's I have tried so far!

I bought deep on '14s, everything I usually keep in my rotation.

I did not buy much '15 or 16 stock,I was happily smoking older stuff, and still have mostly '14 and older sticks on hand.

I feel the '14s outshined the previous three years for sure.

some of my '17 and '18 sticks seem so very young by comparison to the '14s.

I mostly just stuff them back in the humi ,and plan to see them in a few years.......

Montecristo No. 2 ULA OCT 14 box has been excellent in construction, burn, flavor. Very consistent with almost perfect draws. Half the box has been 90-93+ and the few I have handed to friends have been greatly appreciated.

I meant to post this here yesterday.

I got these at the shop in the old Partagas factory just last month.

PL Pics MOE OCT14.

As I told El Presidente, he should ban me from this site for not buying the other 4 (identical) boxes that were underneath...

They are STUNNING!

The last time I had the partagas was in sep2017 and it was full of potential and I estimated it to need another 4 years down. Huge myriad of flavours but still seeming a bit undeveloped at that time.

The only '14 cigars I have are the Dip Bushido RE. Almost needless to say given their reputation, but these are smoking extremely well.

I suspect these would be a favourite from that year even if I had other cigars from 14!

Most of the boxes I am smoking through right now are '13 or '15.

In regards to the Limited Editions, @Luca can attest to how great the ARG Dic 14 Cohiba Robustos Supremos was that I shared with him earlier in the year. I'm grateful I have over half a box left. These have really benefitted from time down. I don't have the Bolivar Super Coronas and I have not yet opened my Partagas Seleccion Privada box. Perhaps I should!

One word...wow. Thank you so much @JohnS for giving me this fabulous Cohiba Robustos Supremos. Amazing smoke and the construction was amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how long the ash got. Great smoke with a razor sharp burn. In my opinion it still has some life in it for another 5 years I reckon.

Partagas Coronos Junior tubos ULA FEB 14 have been so good, hard not to smoke these daily right now until they're gone. Also RG perlas LUA SEP 14 for a few bucks a stick are as good as it gets for a quick cheap smoke, a serious little smoke from fist to last draw. I only wish I had a few more boxes of those.

Just a few boxes in my rotation at this time.

From A to Z

Bolivar Corona Junior ULA ENE 14 (Still too strong for my taste, needs more time)

Bolivar Royal Corona ULA MAY 14 (Was very nice within the 1st year, then muted, haven't tried one for a couple of years)

Cohiba Siglo II MUO FEB 14 (Smoked very well the first 2 years, then closed, came back this year but not there yet)

H. Upmann Sir Winston AGR ABR 14 (Very nice from the 1st year on and getting better year by year)

LGC No 2 ULA JUN 14 (Same as the Sir Winston, just a great cigar)

LGC No 4 ULA JUN 14 (Needed 3 years to open up to my taste, great now)

Montecristo No. 2 RAE JUL 14 ( Needed 5 years to shine)

Montecristo No. 4 MUL MAY 14 (Very nice from the 1st year on)

Montecristo PE OEP ENE 14 (Needed 3years+, excellent now)

Partagas Lusitanias PMU ENE 14 ( Only opened after 5 years of resting, great box)

Partagas P2 ULA MAY 14 (Was good the 1st year and only got better so far)

RA Superiores ULA JUN 14 (Smoked very well over the first 3 years. Have another box resting)
