Has the world gone crazy expensive?
Riverstyx replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Restaurant prices are up but so are the meat prices at the grocery store. Sometimes it seems to make just as much sense to go to a restaurant if I'm not drinking. One restaurant manager told me he's now losing money on food and making it up on beverages. -
Long Term Aging Opinion
Riverstyx replied to moryc's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I bought my son a box of CoRos with his birth month. I know they're pricy now but I can only imagine what they will be worth in 20 years. Cohibas will likely increase in value and have a high likelihood of being marketable in the future. I view it as a gift - if he doesn't want them, he'll likely be able to sell them (hopefully not for meth). A buddy of mine got my son an 18-year old bottle of scotch to age for the next 18 years as well. It's even inscribed with a thoughtful message on the bottle. -
Your favorite RyJ Linea de Oro

Smoked a nobles a couple weeks ago. Too young to say. -
I have a screened in patio with tall walls on all four sides, so not much breeze. In the summertime here in Florida, a fan isn't enough to do the trick. Every year I've considered purchasing a swamp cooler to keep a small area cool outside (maybe 400 sq ft). Has anyone had success with these? Any recommendations? I looked at a Big Ass Fans version (its fans are awesome) but the company's poor return policy has prevented me from purchasing.

When did the packaging change? I recently received the box below:

I used a 560 cfm fan for my build. You can see details and others' opinions here: -

I love ‘em but I’ve definitely had a few that were pretty flat flavor wise. -
The worst box in your humidor?
Riverstyx replied to NW_Oregon's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Great question. I’d have to think about it a little bit but I smoked a ‘17 talisman last week that’s hands down the worst cigar I’ve had in years. Would say it’s fake even, but I got it from our host so I know that’s not true. I tried to find redeeming qualities but it was absolutely awful no matter the price. runner up: every cigar I’ve had out of a fonseca #1 box. (‘16 box; smoked 12 including one recently. All awful.) -
Covid Vaccine. Your plans?
Riverstyx replied to La_Tigre's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Interesting story...I'll give you the brief version: My wife went to see an endocrinologist who thinks the vaccine may have triggered an autoimmune disorder. "There's so much about this vaccine we don't know." -

RECOMMENDATIONS: Partagás P2 Box Codes
Riverstyx replied to AusDyer's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
CCs are like golf after hitting that perfect shot. You keep expecting to hit it again, but it doesn't come...until you're right on the cusp of taking a break. They are as inconsistent as my golf game too - good luck, but it will be difficult to find a P2 that matches it...until you do. -
Last night I was reading CA and actor David Harbour was discussing his favorite CCs. I started thinking - how do these celebs get them? Not that it's hard of course, but do they buy online? From travel? Each one know somebody? Is there a Hollywood "cigar guy" that sources for all of them? I remember seeing a large NY lounge got in trouble once...maybe the high end lounges are the source? Note: I'm talking about sources in general (not specific vendors) and this post was ok'd by @El Presidente

Best/easiest to use propane patio heater
Riverstyx replied to jvd1291's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
First I bought a tower. It only worked okay. Now I primarily use bunny ears...I think it is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-Outdoor-Cylinder-Included/dp/B00823W9B0/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=tank+top+heater&qid=1603740084&sr=8-7 You're not going to win a beauty pageant with it but you'll be warm. -
First, this review is just what I needed. A full weekend with 2 under 2 and by Sunday night I was exhausted. Friday night was an all-nighter to give mom a break, and Sunday was spent trying to do yard with with an almost 2yr old. I dug the wholes and she filled them! Took longer than it should have but was still rewarding in its own way. Exhausted and covered in dirt and sweat, Sunday night I was able to finally smoke a cigar. I was looking forward to this smoke the entire weekend and it did not disappoint. A SP Beli may not sound like a cigar that should be called precious, but trust me it is. At least from this box. I have loved every single one of them. This one was woody and medium-bodied. Smooth retrohale and absolutely delicious. I paired it with a Buffalo Trace old fashioned. I only have 5 left out of this box now. I'd rate this one a 95 for flavor, but 100 for the relief and relaxation it gave me. It was so good I thought about grabbing another cigar, but thought better of it since Monday morning was not far off.

When rules are meant to be broken.

I’ve been experiencing with 69rh Boveda. So far I’ve wetboxed a P2 and Dip2 for months. Tried them both and they were splendid. Much better and richer than normal (64ish rh)
