StingMeadery Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I went on a misguided LE kick when I first started buying Big mistake That money would've been much better spent on regular production. Yeah, I think Rob's Habanos "Aged release programme" is slowly saving me from the viscitudes of the EL addiction... Only just managed not to pull the trigger I those 08 Monty PE this afternoon... Why wait to put down boxes when awesome comes "good to go" !!! 1
polarbear Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I dont mind the EL program but I do think its getting out of hand with the RG and pricing This year was the first year in awhile I didnt buy a box of anything grabbed a 5'er here and there but was wowed enough by them to justify the price As its stands I currently have boxes of: Cohiba 1966 Monte 520 Monte Grand Edmundo Monte Sublimes Cohiba Sublime RyJ Duke RA Extra I've got a few singles left of Mag 48 Punch D'Oro Trindad Short Robusto HDM Piramades Partagas Serie C I've liked most of the LE's I've tried but am not sure if I'll be grabbing any of the 2014s The Cohibas interest me, but they are likely to be WAY out of my price range, especially when there are a coupe of good looking RE's coming out this year that I plan to chase down
Jeremy Festa Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Yes. I smoke them. Some are outrageously good. Others, not so much. For the record, the H Upmann Robusto 2012 EL is my favourite to date.
Duxnutz Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Interesting pick. Completely forgot about those. Have you had the 520s?
polarbear Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I find with LEs there always one people clamour for and the other 2 are largely forgotten
Jeremy Festa Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Interesting pick. Completely forgot about those. Have you had the 520s? Indeed. I got 3 or 4 boxes. About 1 and a half left I think. A great cigar. Just that bit too big. If it weren't so hefty I would get heaps more. Last thoughts on it here --> http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99094&p=487114
subport Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I smoke quite a few LE's. The latest tendency is big RG and high price. Well... lost my interest thanks to the RG's. Quite a few left from 2010, Partagas (meh) and Monte GE (love them) LCDH series are more interesting nowadays. (for me of course) though big RG is stepping up there too
Hash Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I have the following in my stock: -Cohiba Sublimes Excellent, but should be smoked soon. -Cohiba DC excellent. -Siglo 6 Grand Reserve, did not smoke yet. -Monte Sublimes very good. -Monte 520 , did not try yet. -Cohiba Sublimes Extra did not try yet. -RA Extra very good. -Cohiba 1966, did not try yet. I am strarting to feel that the Limited editions do not have that great competitive advantage over the regular production.
ebhead Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 let's see... i have: 1966 520 Punch 2013 Romeo De Luxe RA Extra And I've smoked a few of the ones I don't have any stock in.... The one's I have (except for the RA Extra -which just never did it for me) I've loved... Having said that I am noticing that the longer the ELs age the flatter their flavour profile becomes...but again, that's just me... REs on the other hand, for me, are a different story...they seem to get better with age. E
joeypots Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 The Monte Cristo Els aren't too bad. On the whole I've been disappointed with the whole program. And now they've gotten expensive. The 54 RG thing is out of hand as well. I go back to the R&J Robustos and the Partagas PSD#3. I think the releases I got were wildly inconsistent because the first batched were way better than the subsequent ones. Remember the Hoyo Pyrimids? Every one loved them on release. The second batch were terrible. REs are a different animal, but I'm only a little more sympathetic to that program. I mostly buy regular production and I think Cohibas are a better value than the ELs. I'm rapidly getting to the place where I like a good, well kept, and aged Cohiba the most. I'll take a Siglo IV over a RA Extra any day.
canadianbeaver Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I love different cigars, whether they are RE, LE, or whatever. My bigger critique is just because a cigar is expensive or a big deal name like Behike, does not mean it is better. This is what I often tell fellow smokers who ask about them. 1
Bclass1 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Prepare to take it away... As much as i detest anything over 50 ring gauge and LEs... i'll still buy a box of the Cohiba Robusto Supremos. why? because why not!? . but honestly... i have no idea why i will get a box. i just know i will. Lol, this is quite true for me as well Jeremy. I will definitely end up with a box, and I really don't like the larger RG trend at all.. I just know I'll buy a box.. Unreal
CUBANO Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Not much into ELs anymore. Prices too high and ring gauges too big. 1
Maplepie Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Wrappers too dark and fireproof. Back to the whole 2000-2002 wrapper situation :/ Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.
Lotusguy Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Lol, this is quite true for me as well Jeremy. I will definitely end up with a box, and I really don't like the larger RG trend at all.. I just know I'll buy a box.. Unreal Funny - and I am absolutely, 100% certain that I won't touch a box in my wildest dreams
Pedro2486 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Wrappers too dark and fireproof. Back to the whole 2000-2002 wrapper situation :/ Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry. Definitely. LE and Cohiba maduro, I find the lighter wrappers are more "Cuban" for lack of a better term. Complex maybe. I feel the darker wrappers taste more NC. YMMV 1
Hubba Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I have a few boxes of ELs from recent years. I have enjoyed the Monte GE, RA Extra and the Punch to name a few. Like Lisa, i will atleast try a single or two of most releases to have a valid perspective other than they are too expensive.
mk05 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Cohiba 1966 were absolutely stunning upon release. 1
headstand Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I have had very little EL exposure. Ring gauge and price to blame. A box of RA Extra was wonderful when fresh, but within a year they lost all their appeal. On the other hand, the Canadian RE Simone's kept getting better and better - these I covet.
BonVivant Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I've been buying a boxes of Edicion Limatadas each year since I started smoking and collecting cigars back in 2009. When I can, I'll buy two boxes of each, one to smoke and one to put away. I'm curious to see what EL's people have in their collection. Are you smoking them or saving them? My current EL collection consists of: H. Upmann Magnum 48 - EL 2009 Partagas D Serie #4 - EL 2010 Trinidad Sort Robustos T - EL 2010 HDM Short Hoyo Piramides - EL 2011 Partagas C Serie #3 - EL 2012 HDM Grand Epicure - EL 2013 All of which are put away and I'm not smoking just yet! I'm patiently awaiting the 2014 release to be available. so I can snag a few boxes of the Cobiba Robusto Supremos! No, I do not smoke it The EL had been renamed to Edicion Illimitada (unlimided edition), since the rumor is that the ELs are produced in much larger numbers than most of the regular production cigars - it is a good story, though, even if not true But, I bought it - guilty, as charged
fokker4me Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I have bought boxes of a few Monte 520, Monte Grand Edmundos, and a few others along with some singles. The issues I've had are that most were just more of the same flavors and I hate have a donkey stick of a cigar. I think for what its worth some of the regionals are more up my alley in shape and size, but that's just me.
CanuckSARTech Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 All you fellas not liking the RA Extras 2011, the Monte Sublimes 2008, the Trinidad Ingenios 2007, and the Cuaba Piramide 2008 (year?), please feel free to contact me. I'll gladly take most of these off your hands, the Extras and Sublimes especially! With the Extras especially, I think they're only gonna get better in the next 2 years or so!
ramon_cojones Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I don't smoke them and turn them down when offered, all my friends know not to offer me any. 1
Smallclub Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I'll gladly take most of these off your hands, the Extras and Sublimes especially! With the Extras especially, I think they're only gonna get better in the next 2 years or so! I doubt it, to say the least. A fireproof wrapper will stay fireproof, and time won't add some tobacco in the underfilled wind tunnel Sublimes... 1
Diamondog Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I wouldnt say all fireproof wrapperS wikl stay fireproof...will most? Possibly...i have a box of maddy 5 genios that were very fireproof early on but laying them down the last 4 years at 65rh has pulled enough humidity out of them and they now smoke outstanding where as they were just that fireproof
