A year ago my wife lost 3 siblings in a 3 month span, so this last year has been a long grieving process for her. The Western Idaho Fair started on Friday, and much to my surprise she thought it would be nice to go. We didnβt play any of the games, or go on any rides, but we dined on fine (π) fair cuisine and walked the animal/agricultural/arts & crafts expo buildings. She found a pair of hand made silver and gemstone earrings she was immediately attracted too, which was surprising as she is very fickle about her jewelry tastes. She looked at me and said βI want theseβ and I said absolutely! Temp was high (97Β°F, 36Β°C), but found plenty of shaded areas. No cigars, but that didnβt matter today. Ate more than we should, but it was just a wonderful time talking and people watching. She was happier than Iβve seen in over a year.18 points

Son in laws birthday. Small gathering lined up. Wanted me to show up early to help him swap out some French doors leading to his deck. I said no problem, he already had everything measured and bought. I figured a one hour job. Tops. And it should have been. But. Thereβs always a but. Turns out he had been drinking while measuring, with a 3β grandmas junk drawer tape measure. The small 1/8β wide ones. You know, what all the pros use. π€¦πΌForgot the flashing AND whoever had framed it out previously had used the claws of a hammer to cut/hatchet the original framing instead of what we educated people refer to as a SAW! I can not/ will not abide sorry work so of course Iβm ripping it all out and redoing it while sending him back to the store for more lumber. FOUR! Hours later, finishing up right before guests start arriving! One hour to FOUR hours job! Oh yea, Iβm smiling thru gritted teeth. π Profusely thanking me as I hand him a Siglo VI ( it is his birthday). Heard a guest tell him wow, great job on the door, and you were quick. Patricia is grabbing my forearm and pulling me outside as I start to move toward them. She knows me to well. Rum actually calmed me down as I puffed on a Lusi. Other than that great! And you? πππππ11 points

Got drunk last night on Chardonnay. Had a nudies ROTT. It was fantastic. Hats off to FOH and hamlet for that creation... Little hungover today. Still took the kids to a 4 year old bday party and it was 100 degrees. Pushed through the hangover and worked-out while the kids napped. I think Iβll have light beer tonight by the pool.8 points

Saturday, went to watch a young cousin play in a football final then back to his family residence to celebrate his brother's 18th b'day with, what we call, the Cousin Crew. Just a bunch of Irish gypsies living in the burbs. Ha ha! Great night with some top notch Penfolds reds and a barbecue with pork ribs, marinated chicken and lamb kofta skewers plus BBQ corn on the cob. Apparently there was salad. Ha ha! Watched the Tigers win in the AFL as the ladies and kids danced to 80's classics. Good night all round and no real hangover. Sunday, making a beef stew and watching more AFL while enjoying a Party PC and an iced coffee. Unfortunately, didn't win the lotto but got to be grateful that won the life lotto to grow up and live in a great country. Looks like my Tigers will probably play Brisbane in Brisbane on the weekend of my birthday if Collingwood beat Carlton today. Considering my birthday present be a flight up north to watch it live if I can make the finances work. Cheers.6 points

Caught up with good friends last night. Always a blast. Perfect weather. Up late, and down to the beach now. Coming out of winter, I am as white as a ghost so no doubt I will be burnt to a crisp. Post beach quick gym session and then a long lunch at Pier 33 before a beach walk, maybe a fish and then a well earned cigar. How is your weekend shaping up?5 points

If Zacapa is your favorite of those, you might enjoy Diplomatico, Zaya, Zafra etc. as well. They are all quite light bodied and sweetened pretty significantly just like Zacapa. Iβm personally more fond of rums like Doorlyβs, Mount Gay, Foursquare, R.L. Seales (good shout @Nevrknow) etc. since they are, in my opinion, a more accurate representation of the spirit. They are all rums with none to hardly any added sugar. Though thereβs always an exception, which for me is Plantation XO 20th Anniversary. That has about as much added sugar as Zacapa but doesnβt taste nearly as overbearingly sweet to me. And my favorite rum to have with a cigar is plain old Havana Club 7. Itβs inexpensive, hardly any added sugar and has tobacco/vanilla and fruit notes that I love with a cigar. That being said. The best rum is the rum you like to drink, the way you like to drink it.5 points

When pairing with a spirit, I tend to pair more often with whisk(e)ys. When I reach for a rum for a cigar pairing, itβs generally Havana Club 7. Nice straight up or in a dark and stormy.3 points

No no. Everyone knows Cohibas are much better in glass top boxes. The heat and sunlight infuses them with Vitamin D, which is healthy. Duh. ππ3 points
