I've been enjoying a bunch of PLMCs from 2017, and this is my very first PLPC. Densely packed but good draw. First third was alright. Second third was really nice caramel and rich tobacco, final third was richer still, caramel, coffee, floral notes, nice aroma, some bitterness but not at all unpleasant... really interesting cigar, and really good. If this is considered young for a PLPC, and if they are all like this, these are going to be special. Wish I had a few more boxes ?

Smoked one same box code from a split a few weeks ago.  Pretty much the same experience for me.

Sorry everyone for not posting for awhile, I’m more then a little over due to get back amongst you all. 
To be honest with you all,  I’m only very new to Habanos, but I’m rapidly gaining a better understanding and a stocked humidor. These Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Especial, are just silk on the Palate. These are definitely my new morning cigar.  I also packed myself some more delights as the day unfolds. H.Upman Mag 54, Cohiba Siglo 6 and a cheeky non Cuban Opus X perfection X.   Today looks like a good day.

2019 Diplo 2 Didn’t note the box code but it was HQ from 24:24 in November. Just a well made tasty smoke. Earthy, twangy, pepper and some power. I shouldn’t be surprised by these anymore but I always seem to be. If you don’t need sweetness, these are pretty damn good.

I fly fish whenever I can... well, lately been way too busy but that's temporary ? and that changes tomorrow! Going to float the Shenandoah in the neighborhood here, hopefully find some smallmouth bass.

Bought a bunch of new cigar rests yesterday and didn't even know it.  $3.99/20 or so at Trader Joe's.  They go by the name of Coconut Macaroons. Its a pretty sweet deal if you know what I mean...… ?

I know these get a bad wrap but this cigar was excellent.  Bought a fiver a few years back and didn't like the first three I smoked.  The last two were sitting in the humidor for another year or more before I touched one. Today, I'm sure glad I did.  Excellent flavors of cocoa, creamy chocolate and baking spices throughout. 

 

The lady and I rode bikes over to my grandparents for a little pool time. I enjoyed a favorite NC of mine that I don't smoke often.  This was a house blend by the Oliva family produced specially for the cigar store I worked at in Connecticut while growing up.  Picked up two bundles in 2017 when I was back there last.  

2017 El Cobre by Oliva - Robusto - 5 x 50 - CT Broadleaf Maduro with triple ligero and other Nicaraguan fillers. Black clove, espresso and white pepper and subtle earthy undertones.

A R&J Petit Churchill from May 2016 from my daughters birth month after she fell asleep with me in bed. Sitting in the garage next to her old crib listening to the old Woody Guthrie baby songs I played when I was putting the crib together four years and some change ago. Even with everything going on in the world right now, today was damn near perfect. Thanks again to the BOTL and staff here for helping me get this box. Meant the world to me.

Por Larrañaga Montecarlos LGR Oct 2017

What more can one say when you encounter a box that continually 'hits the mark', so-to-speak? Like a gift that keeps on giving, you wonder, "surely this must come to an end?". Perhaps when the box runs out and you have to buy another?

This LGR Oct 2017 would have to represent the best return for investment in my entire inventory. Each stick cost me just under $US3 a stick and the satisfaction these cigars have afforded me have easily been the equal in value to some much more esteemed (and indeed expensive) cigars in my humidor.

So what is it that satisfies so with the Por Larranaga Montecarlos box? I think it's the balance of sweet flavours such as caramel and honey with the underlying base flavours such as toast and wood. It seems so uncannily consistent that when I have one that has those flavours dominate more than the other, I still seem satisfied.

There's one last thing I need to mention. These sticks usually come in pale, dry wrappers with little to no sheen. They are often  'vein-y' or resemble a dry twig. The ash will never win a slow-smoking or long-ash competition. But one thing I know, they hold their own against some other much-heralded Habanos cigars. And it is this fact alone which I find most 'satisfying'!
