I enjoy making inventories of my things.

I keep a list, mostly so I know what I’m light on... 🤔

4. The smoking: Multiple Choice.

  • I keep detailed tasting notes.

I 100000% thought the "i know what time my last ash dropped" was a pointed question at you... i even was sure when i clicked the "who voted for this" that it would be you 🤣

From my perspective:

  • For inventory - we're missing an option below spreadsheet but above "...find cigars I didn't know I had." I don't maintain a spreadsheet, but I have a listing of all the boxes/box codes I have, and a separate list for loose singles/etc.
  • For inspection - the option that would most align for me is "buy from reputable retailers" - I would never feel the need to check a box from FOH for instance, so I don't do any of those things, but it's not like I'm aloof. I'd do all of them if a buddy randomly gave me a box.

I do not keep an inventory list but I tend to have a surprisingly good idea of what I have when I go through every year or so. On boxes I am deep on I couldn’t tell you exactly how many boxes I have, but I seem to recollect all of the one-offs surprisingly well.

Same with wine, I have a ton of wine but I don’t keep it inventoried. I just drink it and stay ahead of cases as they age.

Funny story, years ago I was living in San Francisco and had a wine closet in total disarray. I’d go in, grab a bottle, and drink it. I had a woman who cleaned for us, I loved her. One day I realize I am missing a bottle. Of all things a magnum of Aubert chardonnay. Many bottles I could have forgotten I drank with a pizza at 2am but a magnum of Chardonnay, zero chance. I confronted her and said hey if you took anything please just come clean. She denied it and I never noticed another bottle missing. Two years later we moved out. In my hallway I find that magnum of chard with a note on it apologizing and asking that I forgive her! I drank the bottle that night with some wood planked salmon. I joked with my wife “man what a relief she could have grabbed a much more expensive 750ml of cabernet and I’d never have noticed.”

I inspect boxes in my 3 wine fridges (42 boxes of CC's) once every two weeks. I will glance at hygro's every few days to make sure everything is good.

I inspect my Coleman cooler (25 boxes of NC's and a few CC's as well) every few days. In the summer time here the cooler gets up to 74-75 but have not had any issues.

I have a good idea of my inventory and box dates, and I don't really document my smokes. I just enjoy the cigars. This is probably the only forum that I'm real active in but I spectate on a few others.

Another vote here for Cuban Cigar Website, a fantastic resource. It's a great place to set ups an inventory and keep track of cigars smoked. I'm not anal retentive, I'm old enough to be forgetful.

Wow! I had no idea the the Cuban Cigar Website had an inventory and tasting notes section. I will investigate this ASAP. THANK YOU!

Right now I keep a spreadsheet but like @SpecialK I only track Habanos on it. I have never weighed my cigars or check serial numbers, but I have run cigars through an ultraviolet light if acquired through trades.

I do take tasting notes for many cigars I smoke, and write reviews on occasion, but I don't really store these to look at later, FOH is a good place that keeps those handy :) . I also post a lot of pics of my cigars and ashes, mostly on Instagram, and leave tasting notes there a well.

FOH is the only forum I am still active on, but I am a member of a few different Discord and Facebook groups related to cigars. Not the same feeling of a forum AT ALL, but they are interesting. It is seems lately a lot of cigar brands and cigar shops are setting up their own Facebook and Discord groups. Too many it to keep a track of regularly and more focused than I prefer.

Was recently turned on to cuban cigar website. I inventory my wine. Just haven't gotten around to the cigars. Really only been amassing enough since last year to justify a spreadsheet. But I'm one of the "spreadsheet is nirvana" folks, so I'm looking forward to getting into it. My collection of NC far outweighs CCs (though if I stay on month 1 track of purchases through FOH that could flip flop), so a good spreadsheet with lots of sortable categories allows for breaking down cigars into families to then do comparative tastings which I find interesting and helpful in developing my palate.
