Even a staged slap is still a slap.  The camera angle is total WWF to obfuscate the impact or lack there of.

I might believe it's real if they take away his Oscar or the like.

I think the reference to Kevin Costner and Hanks is trying to flip a situation on the basis of what if in an allusion to race. The fact is he did something that is not right, jokes and roasting aside. I guess we will never know what would have been. I think people saying “thug” are not the norm but a few, mostly trolls in comment boards. From the inside of media and tech industry generally people not making much sense of it for what I have gathered.

Agreed on Jada’s point. Though I think there is no better “desprecio  than not doing aprecio” so why say anything. She stays above it by not saying anything. 

on another note, self deprecation correlates highly with IQ. Some studies on the subject. roasting is probably the only interesting thing in these events imho, should all take themselves less seriously. Smith could have protested the programming and not going up there to take his award for example. Brando did it.

and i for one am embarrassed that i have contributed to this most pointless discussion of the year. i promise not to do so again.

           *Well I for one am very saddened that this happened...and people keep talking about how it should have been Dave Chappell that he slapped. He's much more "street savvy" and so on.  Also I'm grateful for the pictures showing the shocked reaction on the various attendee's faces...even Mel Gibson looked shocked. I still love Mel Gibson! And Chris Rock had said numerous times (despite being encouraged to do so by Academy officials) that he does NOT want to press charges against Will. Also did everybody hear about the sudden spike in sales and cost of the concert tickets to go see Chris Rock in concert!? So some consequences of such actions can be advantageous as well as tragic.

that said, i think you and i must have a massively different view of 'tragic'. the invasion of ukraine is tragic. climate change is tragic. the holocaust was tragic. a tosser with a little slap in front of vast numbers of people with nothing better to do, for which the tosser can't go to a boring awards event for ten years (which i suspect he thinks is a bonus) is not tragic. it is a bit pathetic and irrelevant and immensely forgettable and all rather stupid but tragic?

Definitely agree with the ‘big picture’ and how it relates to the narrative. Hollywood gossip has long been a distraction to relevant world events. In reality, nothing said here is relevant to the big picture.
