The Bond Roberts 25 is released tomorrow 

Using current Cuba prices, the top 25 performing cigars in terms of average investment return on Bond Roberts.

Over 2500 boxes have now been auctioned of Bond Roberts  so we are in a position to put forward the worlds first quarterly Cigar return Index 

I will post the top 10 tomorrow and shortly after you will be able to access the top 25 performers directly from Bond Roberts

Who believes that they can name the top three performers on the list? Remember, the Bond Roberts 25 Index is about ranking the average dollar return taking into account Bond Roberts auction prices achieved and today's Cuba prices.  The Bond Roberts 25 is regular production cigars only but we will be producing reports on regional's/limited and specialties in due course.

Presumably, by definition discontinued vitolas are not regular production.

Interestingly, in my tracking I have found that among the five broad categories I track (Regular Production, Discontinued, REs, ELs, Special Production), regular production produces higher returns than the other 4 categories.  It's a surprising result (to me) that continues to persist so far through 7+ months of open market sales data.

I am pretty sure I have the answer, but it wouldn't be sporting for me to participate with my "guesses".  I will say some of you are nearly on the right track.  Others...are not.

From what I’ve seen sir winnies surprisingly don’t do great. I’d say:

Seems surprising at first glance. But a lot of people buying aged cigars are new to the hobby and want aged cigars without waiting for years. They have much more exposure to non discontinued cigars and current Els and current regionals.

The only one of those that can be obtained aged are regular production.

There are definitely people not new to the hobby dropping lots of money but their interests are probably more fickle and temporary fads probably abound. Hard to predict what the next hot discontinued cigar trend will be at least well enough to profit. For example Bolivar Coronas Gigantes seems to be very hot now but I don't think it was a year ago and might not be a year from now.

Could be, but then again, this doesn’t help, as it doesn’t specify that discontinued are a separate category:

It would seem that MdO2 would have among the highest return as 2014 boxes have gone over $1000, and the price in 2014 was around $225. By my guess, that would be one of the best returns. 

Regardless, I’ll guess the following, assuming that discontinued are included. Doesn’t seem right, as you would have to make assumptions for inflation to compare to something like a CoRo.
