El Presidente
This topic is unlikely to assist in my transit through Jose Marti Still....it was a conversation last week and an intriguing one. Hypothetical, The Cuban Gov't falls through a bloodless coup. 6 months into a post communist world (Democratic Govt), the door is open for business. You have some decent lazy money in your investment account. Where (if anywhere) would you consider investing your dollars.
Fuzz
General merch supermarket, with lots of low cost, but quality household merchandise. Lots of things that we take for granted; toiletries, long life/canned food, cleaning products, housewares, etc. Fresh food would come later, once stable supply chains are established. I'd also open a hard/houseware business, bringing in not just hard/houseware, but also vehicle spare parts. Kinda like a cross between Bunnings and Supercheap. 1
Toast & Taste
I'd take a punt on HSA, assuming it was open for investment. And real estate development, as in hotels, restaurants, bars. Big Al

Astar20
I’d have to invest in some real estate and I also would put some money into the healthcare system.
CaptainQuintero
Land on the beach front anywhere on the coast that's underdeveloped. I remember talking to an old man in Rhodes who 30 years ago had the chance to buy up land on the coast for next to nothing; double digits per square mile, but passed. Now that land is covered with hotels and private beaches.

Guest Nekhyludov
After my first trip to Cuba, I decided that the first person to open a drive thru/walk up coffee shop in Vedado would make obscene amounts of money.

gweilgi
Healthcare. Medical tourism to Cuba is already well established, and with more and better facilities they could really take off.

ElJavi76
Organic Fertilizing products... I can only imagine what the fields would be like with top notch conditioning. Sugar mills. They've got what it takes to grow the sugar cane but over the past few decades they've closed many mills. Beach front property. Plenty of coastline so go around the island finding places where some beautiful homes could go up. Any or all of the above if money is there.

DaBoot
interesting topic, at the start coastline development, and car/motorcycle import, then depending on the special interests of the new govt (special tourism taxes,or import taxes) would have to re-evaluate. smokum
I would put my money in some sort of manufacturing. The Cuban people are going to need to work before they can buy much of anything.

nKostyan
First of all, trade: - food supply - household goods - consumer electronics - cars Also: - tourism - construction and building materials - banking Forget manufacturing for a couple of decades. Cubans are lazy, besides the first years of trade will give super profits and fast money, and Cubans love to trade exactly more than work. I saw the same thing in Russia in the 1990s during the transition to capitalism
shippers
Underdeveloped land near the coast, some sort of fast food perhaps. While walking around Havana there weren't many options... I liked this but the first one in would make a killing!

Colt45
Don't know specifically, but if it's investment for the sake of ROI, I imagine it would have to be centered around disposable income.
