1. Juan López Selección No.2 MEL Dic 2016

The Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2 has enjoyed a revival on FoH in the last year. Who could have guessed that this robusto could rival the great Cohiba Robustos (or even the Partagas Serie D No.4) for the most popular cigar of that size on our forum in the past 12 months?

This was the first cigar from a new box so I was excited to give this a try, despite the fact that I haven't had the best smoking experiences with this cigar in the last few years. Unfortunately, my poor run of luck continued as the draw on this was very loose and as a result the burn was uneven and required touch-ups and re-lights. This detracted a little from my enjoyment of the cigar, however, the flavour redeemed the experience a little for me, as yes, I did get that citrus orange chocolate and cream coffee blend around that JL2 toasted tobacco core. I hope the next JL2 from the box is better, especially construction-wise.

2. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 BUP Mar 2018

Unlike my previous cigar, the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2 which was loose, this on the contrary was tight in comparison, but thankfully it was not plugged. I found the tight draw did not diminish my enjoyment of this cigar as thankfully the flavours redeemed this smoke somewhat, much like the JL2.

This was light and mild, distinctive Hoyo de Monterrey flavours were evident - light milk cocoa, cedar, clove, cream and vanilla and I must say that these milder, sweeter flavours really resonated with me. Immediately after smoking this, I told myself how important it was to let these rest a little and give it a little time until I reach for the next one, for I fear that I'll finish the box more quickly than I would like, based on the flavours from this first cigar from a new box!

I think I am in love. My cheap and cheerful RG Perla yesterday was actually from SEP 14 not MAR 15. This SPNP is from MAR 15. Left a number of these boxes in Havana. Should have snagged them all. A freaking chimney of wood profiles and savory flavors. Sitting in Savannah GA staring at a coastal pine forest, and that is what this cigar is.

Great tasting BBF in my garage this evening, but damn it’s cold! I’ve just promised myself that I’m going to build a dedicated smoking room for next winter!!!
 

In the garage again this evening enjoying this Monte Edmundo OSR APR 11 from the UK boxpass back in September. It’s still bloody cold but the cigar is worth it!

First smoke in the sunroom of my new house. RJ Short Churchill from the aged sampler. AGU OCT 07.  Had a really uneven burn on one side from start to finish, probably due to the serious box press. Many touch ups didn’t help.  Flavorwise, was not at all what I was expecting too

Partagas Short, AUM Mar 2015.  Very nice, great construction and draw.  1st one from this box and I really enjoyed it (unlike the Saints game).  Nice mix of pepper, leather and cream.  If it wasn't so cold, I might have another.  Let's go Chiefs!

Flew from Seattle to Vancouver to take the red-eye to Toronto. Unfortunately they posted a 2+ hour delay so I got some food and then a CoSho.

 

Finally arrived home this morning after a brutal journey for what would be a 5 hour flight if they had a direct one at the time I needed it.

 

Want sleep tonight so skipped the Americano and trying a new Root Beer with a HQ ABO ABR 16 HU46.

Did you stop by Union Cigar Society in Seattle? That’s a local shop for me and wouldn’t be surprised if they recommended that Warped! I’ve bought plenty from them over the years. ?
