H. Upmann Regalias (en cello, mechanizado) 1999.

The second of two singles purchased here in Montreal, a week ago.

This one was lighter weight, and looser than the first.

Good, typical lower-end Upmann style, toasty tobacco, with a herbal hint in the background.

Simple, but pleasant.

Went Non-Cuban last night with a Padron 1926 #2 I believe and today had an A.Fuente Between the Lines. I enjoyed both. Lots of smoke with the Padron and some strenght coming from the BTL but just made me miss my Cubans that much more.

Had a Rafael Gonzalez Petit Corona tonight. It was a bit flat...not a bad smoke, but I wouldn't say it was good either.

Last night's smoke was a PL Montecarlos, late '07.

Slightly tighter than ideal, but otherwise excellent.

Smooth, creamy, and toasty.

One of my favorite budget-line cigars.

Are the Montecarlos entirely hand made now? I heard that they used to be machine made, but are once again being handmade...

smoking a wonderful sigilo 3 while watching my Dodgers battling with St. Louis in the first round of the playoffs. The cigar is excellent and the doers are winning 4-2 in the sixth. Things could be worse.

Great game. I was watching it too. While I now live on the East Coast in Yankee-land...I can't help still bleeding Dodger Blue. Would love to see a NY Yankees/LA Dodgers World Series match up. That would be sweet.

smoked some excellent cigars this week

1. Tuesday afternoon- MAR 08 JL#1- medium bodied with a light spice and cinnamon flavors- great afternoon smoke with coffee.

2. Tuesday night- 98' Boli Belicos Finos- earthy and powerful yet refined. What I hope the 07's will evolve into

3. Wednesday afternoon- 02 Bolivar Corona Extra via a cabinet SUA SEP 02- brilliant cigar- stronger than the 98 BBF but also very creamy. I bought this cab because my 07's are tasty now but I want to give them time and this fits the bill perfectly. This cigar is one to pass out and you know they will enjoy as well as smoke yourself when you have an itch for a bolivar.

Monte PE. Crap. One of the blandest Habanos I've ever smoked. Other than harshness, there was nothing to this cigar. Wrapper wouldn't burn. Humi is stable at 62%, so that can't be the problem. Surprisingly was quite firmly rolled.

Got me thinkin - maybe the reason that PEs are usually so loose is in order to keep the damn things burning!

Monte is my favourite brand, so a little upset, but ready to forgive.

40/100

Last night's smoke was a Lusi from Nov '04, my third from a box bought in Cuba in early '05.

It seems these cigars are starting to come around.

The body was fuller and richer than the previous one smoked around a year ago.

Started smooth and gentle, but gathered momentum,

The last third was really powerful.

Typical Partagas taste.

I have not tasted any recent releases,

but this did seem better than the few late 90's that I have tried.

All in all, a very pleasant smoke.

88 points, with better to come.

Last night, a Nicaraguan puro, a Dos Rios pyramide by Perdomo.

Beautiful looking thing, with one of Perdomo's reddish wrappers.

Machine-pressed square, a little weird.

All this talk about NC's got me thinking I'd pull one out of the old stock.

Perfect draw.

Tasted like crap.

Stank up the room.

Still had ammonia, though it was over ten years old;

obviously the tobacco was not properly fermented.

I can see why a lot of guys in the US can't smoke in their own home!

Dumped it after 1/3.
