  1. 1. The Pyramids... Which camp are you in... Vote & discuss below!

    • I believe they're basically exactly what mainstream archaeology tells us - i.e tombs built by the dynastic Egyptians. (elaborate below if you wish)
    • I believe an alternate theory or some combination of alternate & mainstream - i.e. they had another purpose, were built by some older lost civilisation, aliens, etc / similar (elaborate below if you wish)
  2. 2. Was this a "Don't Make Me Choose" or "No Contest" question for you? (vote & discuss below)

@Chibearsv in relation to the question posed about Pyramids, etc, if that was the plan, why aren't they here yet.

I could think of a bunch of reasons like: interstellar travel doesn't exist anywhere, they're busy elsewhere and just haven't got here yet, whatever we have isn't worth the bother, etc.

"I don't have my sources handy, but any civilization that would be able to muster the resources and technology for interstellar travel would most likely have shed the ideas that weigh down growth in that matter, leading them to be peaceful."

I'm not saying that they couldn't be peaceful, I'm just saying that's not a singular option. I'd love to know what "sources" there could be for peaceful intention being the only way.

fascinating that the vast majority of comments are from those who went with the Aliens (love Stargate and even starting watching old episodes again recently, but i am leaving it out of the non-fiction

Option two, easy.

can anyone who does think stargate is real, please tell us why. an awful lot of people not saying why.

And at least 4 that voted the alternative count it as a "no brainer". :lookaround:

Philosophically, any alien civilization that would have the intelligence and resources to make it to our planet from wherever they come from, would be expected to be altruistic in their endeavors. It would make sense for them to come, bestow some knowledge and technology and leave. However, it feels odd that they wouldn't come around and help us more often then, given the state of things. *Gestures at all around*

which might explain why we have not visited any other civilisations as yet.

Just for perspective on the distances that must be overcome to travel in space, I asked a bot this question.

How long to would it take to travel to the closest star to Earth's sun in a space ship that travels at one million miles an hour?

Hang on to your cigar.
The closest star to our Sun is Proxima Centauri, about 4.24 light-years away — roughly 25 trillion miles.
At a constant speed of 1,000,000 miles per hour:
25,000,000,000,000 miles ÷ 1,000,000 mph = 25,000,000 hours
25,000,000 hours ÷ 24 ÷ 365 ≈ 2,850 years
So at one million miles per hour, it would take roughly 2,800–2,900 years to reach the nearest star.

Don't get me wrong, I love science fiction, but the size of space is beyond imagination. Overcoming the distances that have to be traveled by a civilization advanced enough to do so begs the question, "Why would they care about us?"

And, don't miss the point, if we could get to Proxima Centauri in 2850 years it would take 2850 years to get home.
BTW, a million miles an hour in space is a very generous mph for travel. By a lot.

Well. You're totally discounting wormhole/black hole shortcuts. ;) But yes, the sheer vastness of space and the speed of light as the common measure does make it seem impossible for aliens to make the trip. Look into Niburu for a real fun time. There is also the inter-dimensional aspect to reality that quantum physics hints at. Or the theory that "aliens" are us time traveling back from a very distant future where humans have evolved beyond the physical form or a minimal version of it. A deep dive on "forbidden archaeology" is also fascinating territory.

Geology shows the Sphinx is greater than 20K years old due to water erosion that doesn't fit in with the 5000 year narrative that is currently accepted. The construction of the great pyramids still defies modern understanding. We don't have the technology to move that many blocks and raise them hundreds of feet in the air and build it in the amount of time it was claimed to have been built in. Aliens? Who knows? Back then any society with advanced technical knowledge would be looked upon as Gods. Lost civilizations and lost know how? Could be. There is evidence of far older civilizations (Gobleki Tempe in Turkey for one). Egyptian archaeology seems to framed in the context of supporting the Abrahamic religions storylines. Any discoveries that break that timeline or don't fit are ignored. There are accounts from Greek philosophers who visited the Giza plateau and were walked through some of subterranean chambers. Modern Egyptology says there's no such thing, but 3D satellite mapping seems to show vast cavities below the plateau that are massive. My mind is open to more possibilities on the subject.

And FWIW, the most impressive pyramid ever constructed is the VR Unicos.

Also they did it with such precision and accuracy! It’s so crazy that people who live and breathe this subject/ancient civilizations don’t have an open mind and constantly knock anything that doesn’t line up with their timeline.

No contest here. There is more to this story. I don’t know if I want to use the word Aliens, but a more ancient civilization than the mainstream science community spreads.

I saw Stargate. Not buying it. 🤣

I’ll go with big ass crypts built by slaves with stone blocks. I think extraterrestrials from another planet or inter dimensional travelers should have been a bit more sophisticated.

Go down to your local shopping mall or city centre, take a seat and have a look around. There are plenty of people from outer space.

The mainstream option takes the poll win, but interesting to see "no contest" as so dominantly attached to the respective choice of answer.

The random draw winner is @WestCoastSmokin!!

Congrats!!

Please PM your details (name, address, and email) to me, and we'll arrange dispatch of your prize :cigar:

Thanks once again to all participants. Next comp details will be up soon - stay tuned!
