“The Marca Makeover Series”: Montecristo

Over the coming weeks we will redesign the Habanos portfolio Marca by Marca. Let's face it, someone has to 

...think "trim, cut, fill" 

We are going to start with Montecristo. Work with me here 

If you had to pick 4 to keep in the portfolio, what 4 would they be?  Use the Poll and pick the 4

I think we would all welcome, the thinning of some big brands repetition, if it meant that we could have more Dips, ERDM, Sancho, etc etc

I went with what I smoke the most of in this marca; namely, the Montecristo No.2, Montecristo No.4, Montecristo Petit Edmundo and Montecristo Especial. 

I wish this poll whittled the number down to 5 instead of 4, as it's very difficult to leave out the Montecristo Especiales No.2, for me.

I hate having to get rid of the 3+ Double Edmundo, but I took the 1,2,4 and Especial.

I don't feel good about myself. 

Now the marca is long on skinny ones plus the two iconic sizes. QdO is going to have to do the heavy lifting and make more Coronas available .

Exactly the same except I picked the Monte 4 instead of the Especial.

The Wide Edmundo is just too good for me to leave out. I also had to pick some of the numbered and went 1,3,4. Tough choice. I'm a fan of the marque.

I went #1, #3, and the two Especiales sizes. Leaving out #2 was tough but I just don't smoke many torpedos and I think the #1 is the sleeper of the entire lineup.

Cant believe the Petit Edmundo is behind the standard Edmundo. Didn't see that coming.

Monte 1 is the must cigar for me in the Monte lineup. Fill in the other 3 spots any way you want but don’t remove that one.

Monte 1, 4, Especial have always done right by me. The A is worth saving. Such an epic cigar. Smoking one feels like you've won the World Series. If I could have a 5th, it'd be the MPE, which I'd swap out for the Monte 4.

A - just because

No.2 - the most iconic of the marca

No.3 - a classic with a wide base of casual consumers

Petit Tubos - they're just too good and tubo is a must in their line up.

Tough marca to start with because I like a lot of their portfolio.

For me keep: #1s, #2s, Especial, Especiales #2, Petit Edmundos, and Double Edmundos.

The Monte No.2 is a classic, but I have not had a really good one in years. They are just so inconsistent I had to say cut😕 I went with:

Monte 4 (Another legend)

Monte Double Edmundo (The 10 count boxes from 13' are just sublime)

Monte Edmundo (I just like the size)

Monte Especial (We can't let all the skinny's die).

No. 2 - I've been very lucky with these overall, and we have an HQ BRM ABR 22 review coming out tomorrow. Spectacular box.

Petit No. 2 - I fell in love with these in Havana and have a few 10cts. Controversial choice, apparently.

Monte A - how can you not include this beast in the list? Only A still in production and the ones I've had have been amazing. My Super Bowl cigar - only once a year (until the BR Fenómenos arrives).

Wide Edmundo - I am really impressed with this new release. Each I've had has been a 90 point cigar.
