Low Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 The last of my singles from this particular year. Easily the lightest wrapper I've ever had of this cigar, so use that as a hint. Also a little fatter, closer to a 52 than 50, but that's Cuban quality control for you. V-cut, torched, and paired with ice water. First draws are very tight, gonna see how it opens up before hacking away at it First third - Light bread, light caramel, cedar, sandalwood, and a very distinct creaminess reserved only for this particular marca. Surprisingly viscous smoke, that is usually unlocked further down the cigar. Second third - Bread, honey replaces caramel, bit of something floral, cedar, sandalwood, new white pepper through the nose (could be the floral note), and the cream persists. Final third - Light coffee, light honey, cocoa, cedar, pecans, white pepper, and once again cream. The bread is gone, and so has the flowers. The body for the entire cigar hovered from light to medium light, growing ever so slightly throughout the smoke. Now I had a little trouble with this one, struggling with the draw until just past the second third. Although it was a struggle, I think it slowed my pace down just enough to get a little more out of it. Honey is something I rarely taste in this particular cigar and is usually reserved for that top 1%. Next one I try is going to get smoked just as slow as this one to see if that is all I've been missing to take these to the next level. 9.3/10 - What I, and many others consider the best "anytime" smoke. It's a shame I only have about a box and a half left, as I'd take around 1000 so my kids and grandkids could experience them. 4
GaryK 54 Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 The honey throws me off, but consistent cedar, white pepper, floral and nuts all point to HdM Epi 2. Beautiful Colorado Claro wrapper on this stick. The strength you describe matches well with the HdM marca and the claro wrapper. I agree with your comment that this (assuming it is HdM Epi 2) is one of the best 'anytime' cigars. You're in good company with that thought... Sir Terence Conran reputedly smoked the Epi 2 almost exclusively and enjoyed at least one every day. He would probably rank 2nd to Sir Winston Churchill among the most famous cigar smokers of the 20th century. Nice review and great pictures @Low!

I was also surprised by the honey, and I've only had it in maybe two of all the Epi 2 I've ever smoked. Might have to edit the post and bump the score, cause it was something really special, despite construction issues.
