MoeFOH Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 MoeFOH's Movie of the Week 🎥 Each week we're going to spotlight a movie... be it a classic, new release, hidden gem, or outright turd... and open it for discussion: i.e. post up your favourite quotes, clips, memories... or dive deeper and give us a critique on why you think it's great, overrated, or a complete train wreck... And finally score it for us... All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's a movie you want to nominate for next week's discussion. Week #37: Planes, Trains, And Automobiles Moe says: Just had to go with this, this week... Wiki says: Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a 1987 American comedy film written, produced, and directed by John Hughes. It stars Steve Martin as Neal Page, a high-strung marketing executive, and John Candy as Del Griffith, a goodhearted but annoying salesman. In spite of their differences, they share a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to get Neal home to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving Day dinner with his family. The film received critical acclaim, with many praising it for Hughes branching out from teen comedies, and for the performances of Candy and Martin. The film has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many. Over to you! How do you rate it out of 10? Post up favourite clips, quotes, etc... 3

Capn_Jackson Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I’ve been a huge John Candy fan since I was a boy. I’ve read so much about what he was like in real life, and it’s really heartbreaking that he died so young. His character in this movie is brilliant. One of his best roles. Steve Martin, too! The tirade he unleashes on the car rental clerk at the airport is gold! The emotions get to me at the end of the movie in a big, big way. A killer classic comedy feast with a lot of heart. ”You’re going the wrong way!!” 2
Cigar Surgeon Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 John Candy is a Canadian legend. Would you expect anything less from me than a 9/10? 1
Doctorossi Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 A sure-fire 8/10. The best of John Hughes schmaltz, IMO. 1

Tdm_86 Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 John Candy, one of the greats of that period. The scene where they need cash and Del sells the rings off the shower curtain always gets me rolling: ‘This is Czechoslovakian Ivory’ 😂 8/10
