What is the best slim format Romeo?

Recommended Posts

I guess like most of us, I’m a big fan of Churchills and Ex.4. I like the Petit Royales too, which are useful in cold weather.

But which are the best of the sub-44 ring gauge Romeos? Does one of the petit coronas stand out as better than the rest?

I cant really talk to it as I'm not much of an R&J fan.  but following the comment of a range of other FOH,   it seems they go for the Mille Fleur of the Belvaderes

The real king of R&J skinnies was of course The Shakespeare, long gone, but I think they were Lancero sized.

I've had good luck with the Mille Fleurs and I've had a few of the Petit Coronas too. I'd describe the flavours of the Mille Fleurs as cherry and sometimes charcoal. Haven't had the petit coronas in a while so don't quite remember, but I think the construction might have been a bit better but the few I had were on the looser side in terms of draw, which I don't mind as marevas can sometimes be tight. I have a box on the way so I'll have a chance to try them again.

Cazadores are good too, but the flavours can be different than the rest of the Romeo and Juliet line, though I've had one from a box of mine with three years of age that was similar in flavour to an Ex. No. 4, but I am told this is quite atypical. The two or three singles I had before this box were all quite uncharacteristic of Romeo and Juliet flavours being savoury flavours rather than the typical cherry or rosewater/turkish delight.

Mille Fleurs are great value. There’s something amazing about opening a box of cazzies with some down time tho. All marinating and stewing in their own juices...

What do you all like so much about the Cazzies? I found no complexity with them and to me they were just meh.

Now the Ex #4 is a very nice cigar with much more finesse and complexity.

I'm with my homegirl @VKUTT. I don't think RyJ does well in the the slim format. Mille Fluers are good to me. They are like mini #4s when good. unfortunately they are cheapies, and can easily be victim to garbage rolls and bad crops. When they are good though, they taste like your premium fruit forward RyJ. I'm not a fan of Cazzies. Maybe they're good with 10years on them, but I don't care enough to find out.

I have one box of Romeo y Julieta Coronitas en Cedro from 2016 that are not very good at all.

Yeah, I went off of those a few years ago. The last boxes I had in 17-18 were lousy.

Same here. No luck with the Cazadores. Been trying them since 05. They seem like RyJ versions of JLP Cazadores. They just taste like non-premium leaf to me.

I think the MF are more consistent than the PC and, although a tad lighter than the PC typically is, the quality is similar. And the MF is about 25% cheaper.

Now especially with all the larger new formats coming soon. My question is 7 X 47. Can we call the R&J Churchill long and skinny. ?

I think it qualifies based on average size these days.

Churchill: the new Lonsdale.
