I'd be more upset about losing Warpaint than the chop.
BoliDan
Can't wait to see the new name and logo. Hope they keep the same color scheme since it's unique in the league. I bet everyone will hate it nonetheless. I'm hoping for the Washington Crabcakes.

SCgarman
The Redskins have sucked for the last several decades and are no longer relevant as a competitive team. Even many fans have turned their backs on the team and it's disaster of an owner(s). So does it really matter what they are called?

I dont think they can stop Tomahawk Chop in 3rd quarter when 40,000 fans are 3 sheets in the wind!

rp99pts
NFL is a joke. Just wait til the players all stand for one anthem and take a knee for the other.
asudevil08
Goodell is a puppet. But this change has been a long time coming - not surprised at all, simply taking advantage of the political winds.

NSXCIGAR
I saw this coming as my High School mascot was also the Redskins. I grew up in New England. I first heard the talk about changing it around 1993. It was well understood that the outcry wasn't coming from the Native Americans but the young white Gen Xers. We laughed at that time. In 2001, as soon as the Gen Xers started gaining institutional and political power, the name was changed.

We laughed at that time. In 2001, as soon as the Gen Xers started gaining institutional and political power, the name was changed. @ElJavi76 brought this up in zoom while hanging out with @SigmundChurchill. He brought up a lot of good points of things that are "considered" racist in today's overly PC world. Although I agree with my friend on the ridiculousness of those events, I don't think this situation is similar of those examples (Sorry Javi, I would have brought it up in zoom, but I was too tired to have @Jeanff type argument at the time... just wanted to smoke and shoot the poop). This has been a bane to the population it has targeted since it's inception and not some new snowflake culture thing. It is just being addressed now after years and years of fighting. One of our biggest rivals in college hockey was the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. They changed their name recently. I could not understand. As an Irish decent, I always liked the "fighting Irish", even if the mascot is a midget... We Fight, Feck off, it's grand!!! I can understand Native Americans being pissed off about Redskins as a name. It was originally used as derogatory term for Indians, even giving bounty for people collecting "Redskins" in newspapers (Indian scalps, and I am that qualifying they did it first, so this was retiribution. In a way justifiable.. ) Furthermore, at the same time they called us White Devils and other slights. Clearly the name "White Devils" would not bother us... However, imagine if the Indians conquered us, pushed us off in barren, poorly irrigated lands, where there is no easy access to jobs, there is no available transportation to locations of employment, there is no internet, there is no good schooling oppurtunity, a large % of people die of alcoholism in their 30s, children get minimal care and have the highest infant mortality rate in the nation. There would likely be a uprising against the team that celebrates that old derogatory slur... I understand hate against "Redskins". My wife is half Comanche (closely related to Navajo). She is a beautiful woman and is offended by it. She is 100% correct because she is the one targeted. Rather than someone absolutely with zero affiliation and just wants "them" to deal with it. I never cared either way myself (still would not) but the fact that my wife feels like it is normalizing hate towards her, is why she will always be right versus some sensitive dudes that believe society is falling because we are addressing something harmful to someone else. My wife has absolutely zero issue with other teams: Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, KC Chiefs. She thinks they are fine. She actually like the chiefs chop (and she's a Broncos fan)... It is literally just the "redskin" for her. Here is my beautiful Native wife, our ridiculously photogenic child and me. Obviously if they feel pissed about it (and not honored) they are ones correct, not us. I'm not sure why it means more to a bunch of curmugdens who cant deal with a little change in name, of a team, that will continue to be the same team. 26

Popular Post Drguano
If a mate gives you a nickname that you don’t like and you ask them not to call you that, you don’t call them that again. Unless you’re a dick. A mate could say that they did not mean to offend or just stop using the nickname. This is a football team (or baseball or whatever) and fans or owners can come up with another name. How about the D.C. Comics? 3 1
