Every week we're going to have a poll about the definition of a forgotten or obscure word. Pick the definition you believe to be the correct one. All voters (correct or not) go into the draw for an El Pres Sampler!!   (Drawn Tuesday morning, Brisbane time)

NO GOOGLING OR DICTIONARY USE! We're using the honour system. It's just a bit of fun. If you know, you know. If you don't, have a stab in the dark or an educated guess (if you prefer that term).

You may elaborate about your choice in the topic thread below if you wish but no posting of any official definitions, etc., that will give away the game for others.

I thought I had seen this word before, but couldn't recall exactly. I was able to eliminate two options for sure. But I guessed to cast my vote. Well done MoeFOH, good choice of options

First thing that I thought of was "Groot" - that tree thing in the marvel movies, so I chose "The smell, usually acrid, emanating from a dank, mouldy confined space"

Week #1 done and, as I'm sure we all now know, the real definition of Smoot is 2. A unit of measure equal to five feet, seven inches which got 23% of the poll. Well done to those who knew or guessed right! Most people plumped for 4. An antique cabinet, often used to store fireplace tools at 30% of the poll.
