Popular Post LordAnubis Posted December 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2015 Well what a week it was! Flew into Iceland and landed in the dark. It was 16:00. There's only about 6 hours of daylight here. Crazy! I've been speaking with one of our members, Peter, beforehand and message him to let him know I've landed etc, and he says let's have a welcome smoke! Hell yeah! Caught up with him for what was going to be the first of several great smoking sessions with a great man! Peter is everything this forum stands for, good friends, good laughs and good times! I stayed in Reykjavik and just did day trips when I could. My first day was pretty boring, just walking around the city a bit as most tours were cancelled due to bad weather. Had another smoke with Peter to end another good evening! I went on a bit of a lava tube trip where you get to go down and explore a lava tube. Obviously no lava in it. It was alright, wouldn't say it was the most exciting. The thing I enjoyed the most was all the snow! This is the first time I've had the full snow experience! I've seen a bit of snow fall before, and seen some on the ground in a few places but this was my first full on snow experience! It was AMAZING! The only aim I had of this trip was to see the northern lights. I was lucky enough to see them the first trip I made out of the city to get away from the background light of the city. They were brilliant to see. The solar activity wasn't the highest but still I'm glad I got to see them and they were quite active. Unfortunately I only have an iPhone and it can't take night time photos for ****, so here's the worlds crappiest photo of the northern lights. The next day a strong storm came through. Strongest in almost 30 years or something. They were expecting cars to blow away! Obviously all trips were again cancelled due to bad weather. All roads closed so couldn't even catch up for a smoke! In Tuesday my cousin joined me. He landed in the morning and that afternoon we went to the blue lagoon. Nothing all too exciting really, just some warm water that's blueish in colour. That night caught up for another smoke. Smoking in one of the offices of Peters workshop and was fun seeing him time ting to open the window that was blocked from a massive pile up of snow behind it. This snow crap is maaaad!!! Wednesday went for a trip around the golden circle. A national park and a geysir thing. Was pretty good. Also saw the meeting (or diversion really) of the American and Eurasian continental plates. By far the most exciting thing we did in Iceland was a glacier and volcano trip. The weather was nice and clear on Wednesday and we got to drive out to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. The one that shut all air traffic in the world a few years ago. We were in a "super jeep". It was a beast. After the trip to the volcano we went to a glacier and did a hike on the glacier for a few hours. Nothing strenuous, casual walking, but it was fantastic! The sights were great, the hike was great, just can't ask for anything better to experience! I really wanted to do this because last time I had the opportunity to walk on a glacier in Argentina I passed it up. What a mistake that was! Anyway I'm glad I did it this time. If anyone goes to Iceland in would say this is an experience you can't pass on. That night went for the final smoke with Peter and it was a nice clear and we're lucky enough to see the lights at his workshop where we were smoking. Apart from the freezing cold night, it is something special smoking a cigar while looking at the night sky being lit up by solar radiation bombarding the magnetic pole of the earth. I also found a bar in downtown that had this sign. I was speaking to the owner and she said "some people are complaining about the "best place to smoke" on the sign..... But f&@! Em!!!" She's true FOH material. We need to make her the cell leader for the Arctic circle or something. Nice place to smoke. It essentially a patio so if it's windy it won't be too enjoyable, but I could survive smoking a club allones out there so it can't be too bad! A massive thank you to Peter for his hospitality and excellent evenings of cigar smoking and laughs. Can't get much more of a better bloke. 20
