  1. First vacation cigar tonight on the beach. Clear skies and no wind made it a pleasant night for stargazing. Cheers! Bill

  2. A well aged, pre-1998 Bolivar Coronas and my very last one too. I suppose that is the last of them, "old Cuban" taste cigars that I have. They sure don't make them like they used to.

  9. Cigars... Yes, the larger ring gauges. I may be ignorant, but if I have to "come out" in order to smoke it... I won't do it. Non-cigar... Anything that has to do with the "pansying" of us as a society. I grew up rolling in the dirt, drinking non-organic milk, mowing grass, with a skinned up knee on a consistent basis. I was covered in dust and dirt when I came in for dinner in the evening.I can't for the life of me understand why people think that all these "organic" regulations for all of our lives is going to make us healthier. Go out and play some ball in the grass, get the crap beat out of you by your older brother, eat a bug "just because you wonder what it tastes like", get off your butt on the couch... I promise you'll be healthier, and happier. And no, I'm not old, I'm only thirty.

  14. Found time on a recent sunny Sunday afternoon to finally light up that Ramon Allones Gigantes that I had been looking forward to, so as promised here is the quick review: This RAG was out of a handpicked clearance box. Code EML SEP 14. It was in my online locker for about 6 months and then I let it acclimatize in my humidor for about 20 - 30 days before not having the patience any longer. Not the prettiest stick in the box with a few nicks in the wrapper, but otherwise excellent construction. With the anticipation for this cigar built up, I was a little concerned that it wouldn't live up to the hype that I created in my head. It didn't take long for this cigar to set my mind at ease and put a smile on my face. About a half an inch in and Ramon was singing that sweet stewed fruit tune that he's know for. Plum with a little blackberry intermingled with rich tobacco. Very vibrant flavors with body a touch over medium. The whole cigar could be like this and I would be extremely happy. Heading into the second third, the cigar did get a bit darker with more of the tobacco coming through and only hints of the sweetness noted in the first third. A little bit of a damp clay soil entered the senses but it was not unpleasant. Still rich/dense smoke with a lovely aroma. Near the end of the second third, the flavors shot right back up with the stewed fruit taking hold again. I did run into a bit of a burn issue when I was in the final third but it was nothing that my trusty FOH lighter couldn't take care of I'll let the final picture tell you what I thought of the last third... I would have lit up another one right after burning this down to the nub. Thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours...can't wait for the next one. Easy 94+ cigar all day long. Smoke 'em if you got 'em, friends!

  15. I have one from the Christmas sampler. This will be my first and only. Cant bring myself to smoke it yet knowing that is it. No more to be had, at least for me. I really regret not going deep on these based on the feedback alone. Love the size and hand feel. Oh well. Other great cigars out there to be had.

  24. "Best" is in the eye of the beholder... Those three you picked show a very different character within the H. Upmann line. I'd also count the Connie A among the best. The Mag 46 can be hit and miss and, in my opinion, needs the longest time to come around (highest mongrel-factor...). If you'd insist in a ranking of those I'd go: Swinston, Notoo, Mag46. But they are no question cigars for different moods and occasions. As Chris has said, you won't go wrong not neglecting the smaller vitolas. The PC will give you a good intro into the marca without asking for too much commitment, and you'll quickly rise above your 1 cig a month quota. (Welcome!)

  37. i always thought Rake was the best television australia ever did. well, series 1 and 2. thought it fell short with 3 but this week, we have series four. i know they did an american version with greg kinnear that i gathered fell flat. and there is always the language warning. a few reminders. some quotes and clips - on language - defending bigamy - defending sam neill, the rottweiler bonker cleaver greene's reaction on his secretary, Nicole, announcing her engagement. "He was your first? And only? You’ve never been with anyone else?? Well aren’t you curious? About other men! I mean there’s a whole world of other men out there! Different shapes, colours, sizes… And what about women?? How can you possibly know you’re not a lesbian if you’ve never been with another woman? Five years down the track when you’re sitting opposite Bevan in some torturously deafening marital silence thinking about the opportunities you gave up because you decided to imprison yourself with one man who may or may not even be a good root because who knows because you haven’t slept with anyone else! I mean I understand people who settle for second best in an informed choice but you’re not even doing that. You’re just out there in some sort of fantastical Jane Austen bullshit haze. Anyway… couldn’t be happier…" and then turn ing up to his mate's kid's birthday party and attempting to explain to the left wing clown why it is better to sleep with right wing women than lefties. needless to say, it ends up in a punch-up. You want the truth? Right wing chicks are hot. Much hotter than left wing chicks, and you know why that is? Because right wing chicks are aggressively carnivorous, self reliant Ayn Rand accolytes who understand the value of the moment. They get that sex is something in and of itself beholden to nothing and no-one and as a consequence of that understanding they're less inhibited and therefore hornier. Left wing chicks on the other hand, they're vegans who want a holistic experience. They're all about context. They talk about an orgasm like it's a pet spaniel, and so consequently the moment's ruined and this, Mr Clown, is the real reason why the left has carked it., because the right is constantly procreating while the left is grooming a dead dog.

  41. It's funny, I looked at those slices and said "hmmmmm, those look like NY slices, but most guys on here aren't from NY, so hmmm, where in the world are they able to make slices that resemble that greasy goodness of a NY slice?" then I saw your comment. Where are those slices from brother?

It's poetry, you knucklehead. It has only one use, and that's pulling chicks. Go forth, my son, and try not to multiply this time.” to his mate Barney as the marriage falls apart, thanks to cleaver - "Barnyard, you have Monday's buttons in Tuesday's holes." to a potential juror, to the horror of the judge, when assessing if that juror should be on the jury - "complete this sentence "I admire Alan Jones because......."

  44. Cigar: Old fart aficianados with palates destroyed by "as much ligero as we can stuff in there, wrapped with 100 ligero leaves" NCs getting bent out of shape because the efffing Monte 2 they smoked in the 19 whatever's is different than the Monte 2 now. Of course it is! It's a DIFFERENT DECADE! You're a different person. Non Cigar--1.) Men who own a Prius. I would just like to know what possessed you to go to a lot, test drive that car, and determine it was worthy of your hard earned money. Don't get me wrong, it's probably the most rational car purchase one could make (nope couldn't say that with a straight face--I tried), but is there something else at work here? I'm shocked everytime I see one-if not the 'Stang or Diesel Dually couldn't you have just gotten the Corolla or a nice SUV of some sort? 2.) Stress. We all likely have it but do we have to talk about it sooooo much! Puhlease. I sent a guy home from work a month ago for insobordination and he texts me later that he was sorry he seemed so stressed and that he hoped I didnt feel challenged or stressed myself. I let him know where we stood, and reassured him I was fine and continuing my duties unfazed. EDIT TO ADD: If a man smoking a Monte 2 came to me complaining about how stressed he was over his cigar not tasting right that he bought a Prius my head would likely explode right then and there. Kaboom!

  45. Cigar: Cuban ring gauges mimicking the behemoth trend of non cubans. A 60 rg cigar to celebrate Cohiba's 50th!? So much for the finesse and elegance of the world's best cigars. Non cigar: Right-wing religious bigots who act like they're standing up for liberty by restricting the freedoms and rights of others. These are the very assholes who would join al-quaeda if it was a Xtian organization.

  46. I think I have summed it up. A family, all dressed in skinny wear, after waiting 3 hours for a kale luncheon, sit down and complain about the view of the smoking establishment across the street, order the organic milk, raw juice, kale vinaigrette, and document it all on all the social media sites. They all chew with their mouths open, yet refuse to talk to each other while playing on their electronics and texting, although still find the motivation to admonish the waitress due to the wait, and quality of the fare, some brown spots on the kale. They leave a half chewed kale mess on the floor from their screaming 3 year old (the only one who has enough sense not to eat kale) the one that they never address, much less correct and then get up and go without tipping!!! They hop in their AMG and while complaining about the cost of the event, refuse to tip the valet as well! In other words, it sounds like a lot of us don't care for yuppies! -Piggy

  47. Cigar related: it's been touched on but for the NC mfg's who produce in 500 ct runs and jack up the price as super super limited. For CC's, I'd say the deletion of some really stellar smaller lines (diplo, lgc, etc.) Non-cigar related: offshoot of Bill above. The need for people to document their lives. I'm a millennial and anytime I'm at an event with my peers (baseball game, concert, the symphony!!, eating dinner even) they feel this need to be documenting it with pictures, tweets, vines and snapchats. They spend so much time documenting the experience they miss the actual experience! Ten years from now are you going to look at one of the hundred thousand selfies you took while out to eat? Are you going to watch the awful quality video you took of a concert you were actually at? Why not put the phone away so you can soak up the details that let you relive the experience years from now.

  48. Organic Milk: OK, so you want "healthy" milk for your kids? Organic you say? It must be Organic or it's got nasty stuff in it like growth hormones and antibiotics from the cows you say? Wrong! Organic milk is ultra processed food. I had a discussion with a dairy farmer recently and he said the whole thing is rubbish! He said the best milk is the freshest locally produced milk you can find. All dairy farms have to keep their cows health, so treating sick animals is required by law. Most dairy farms will isolate and treat sick cows until health and dump their milk. Antibiotics will then pass through their system within 72 hours of treatment. This whole myth of treating cows that get sick and it contaminating the milk is hogwash. Also, in the USA there is no prescribed/enforced definitions of what "Organic" milk actually is. In reality Organic milk is highly processed ultra pasteurized milk that the producers have successfully convinced many people is "healthier" than normal milk. Mainly through marketing! I pride myself on eating as little processed food as possible and Organic milk happens to be the most processed form of milk you can buy for one simple reason. It must stay fresh while it's shipped all over the country. Case in point, my state has no dairy farms that call themselves "Organic," so all of the "Organic" milk in the supermarkets here is shipped in from out of state. This is the reason it is ultra-pasteurized and processed . . . so it won't go bad as quickly. So in essence if you buy "Organic" milk you are paying $5-$7 per gallon for highly processed pseudo-healthy milk - when you could be paying $1.79 - $2.99 for fresher less processed milk.
