bmac Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Ford may be a communist sympathizer, too. (Just joking๐บ๐ธ) Never know about those Monterey guys!

Our second home is Steamboat Springs, CO which has produced more Winter Olympians than any other town. The entire town revolves around it. I believe the current number is Steamboat has produced 106 Winter Olympians, 9 this year. I am a huge fan, itโs hard not to beโฆI get to ride the lifts and see these kids in their everyday environment. The amount of sacrifice and emotional/physical strain canโt be overstated. And then itโs all over and you need to make a whole new life for yourself in your 20s. My buddy I snowboard with won two golds in Torino and Vancouver. He has commented that I should get my 7 year old son into the clubs/programs as he definitely rips for his age. I have zero interest, I hope he doesnโt either! I am happy celebrating other peopleโs kids and us having a โnormalโ life.ย

I THOUGHT he would go pro. I catch hell when I say no way. He never practiced. Tried to explain that while he plays video games, champs are practicing. Whether they want to or not. His reply?ย ย "I'm not doing that all the time like Bella." (My granddaughter who practiced constantly at volley ball). Found muscles I hadn't used in years defending against her in the back yard (ok, ok I was just trying not to get hit. She can smack a ball ! ) ย She has a State championship to prove it though. JUST now he will admit I was right.ย She's not even that tall and can whip ass. 1 winner and 1 whiner.ย Now she reminds me every now and then she can beat me in volleyball. My response? Wanna race building an engine? She just groans.ย ๐ ย 4
Goldeneye Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Congrats team USA, a classic game.I'm not going to lie, this hurts as a die hard hockey fan and Canadian, but Elbows Up. I just wish I could confidently say Lord Stanley will finally be coming home to Canada this spring, but I don't see that happening in 2026.ย 3
Boss Hog Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Big Mackโs reaction when he was handed that Beanie Baby was simply priceless. ๐คฃ Brady Tkachuk (Sloth from the Goonies) would most likely give it a name and sleep with it. โHey mommy! Look what I got.โ 2 1
JohnS Posted February 23 Posted February 23 You know what would be a great way to cap off this whole thing? Let's run a poll on how Canadian/American Wayne Gretzky is! (I.e. Is he 100% Canadian, 100% American, 50% Canadian/50% American or perhaps some other combination?) On the other hand, come to think of it, let's not!ย (Judging from the reaction to this thread, it's probably not a good idea!)

chasy Posted February 23 Posted February 23 It's refreshing that these hockey players are salt of the earth. As a former basketball player, I can't stand the prima donna's that make up the top ranks of the NBA. The hockey guys, on the both sides, understood what the Olympics is all about and treated it as an honor. All about your country and your team. Even some of the individual athletes have a bit too much 'it's all about me' vibes. Hockey dudes are cool. 2

The "Great Once", "Regretzky" are his new legacy. Gordie Howe is spinning in his grave. He should come back to elbow Waynes face into the boards until every last tooth is on the ice.ย ย As for the game, it was tight. The goalies were the show. The 3 on 3 format kinda sucks IMO. It could have gone either way. Sadly, it didn't go Canada's way but it's not like they lost to a bunch of beer league scrubs. They lost to top tier players, much like themselves. 3
Namisgr11 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 American hockey has come a long way. As an eternal Flyers fan, and an elderly one, I remember fondly the two straight Stanley Cup championships from 1973 to '75. I also remember that the entire Flyers roster was made up of Canadians. Every single player. 1

I liked it because it seemed inevitable that a goal would be scored relatively quickly because of the extra open ice. I've been to playoff games that have gone to 3 extra periods before. That's just too long and it seemed the longer it went, the less likely a score was going to happen. 1
Boss Hog Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Imagine winning your first gold medal in over forty years and being greeted like this upon arriving at the airport.ย Ouch. ๐ณ I guess that itโs still โour gameโ after all. ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ ย
