New series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts.  This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.

Let's kick off today with a cigar most of us here are familiar with.

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll.

Brilliant cigars, young or aged. They rarely disappoint.

I had no issue voting 7-10 (very good to excellent) in every category.

Me too John, an easy one for me.

One of my least favorite Partagas oddly. That said, they aren't bad. But I won't park my coin here other than the odd ten pack.

I’d have voted 7-10 years in every category a year ago (2017-2022 box dates). Still one of my workhorses, but some recent boxes have trended towards the unreliable construction and blend. Given the price increases, it could fall down in my rotation if not a hiccup in a few (~5-6) 2023 boxes.

One of my favorites, but they did fall off little '00-'05 and then came back stronger than ever. Same with Serie P. For a while I was indifferent to either, now adore both.

Those along with Presidente, Salomone, and EL's are my favorites from Partagas.

I...don't get this cigar, or the love for it. Maybe I have had duds, but, I have had better flavor, for my palate from the Mille Fleur.

I have tried to like this cigar. Just smoked an ‘05 a couple nights ago. It was perfect in every way. Doubt I’ll ever smoke another. It’s time I realize they just aren’t for me. Of the current Partagas offerings give me an 898, P2 or Lusi. I’ll leave the PSD4 for the myriad that love them and keep a few boxes in my humidor for my friends.

If they all had the signature sourdough/ sweet cream I’ve found in some of the best ones/ this would be a 11 all around. Unfortunately I rarely capture the magic the D4 is sometimes capable of and find that most of them taste of perfumed flowers and rose water. Combine this with the recent development of it being significantly more pricey than some of the other standout robustos.

I'm out.

I run a shelter for unloved PSD4. We recently opened and our mission is to provide a loving home for so many of the D4s that currently don’t have one.

If you or someone you know has under-loved D4s, please reach out and we can help place them into a loving humidor.

The best part is, we do it for free! We’ll even play shipping fees to ensure they end up in the right place.

A shelter is supposed to be a safe space, not a crematory. 🔥

I keep them around to try to be a good host for my friends. Maybe my favorite guest cigar. If I ran out I would buy more. If I had to pick three vitolas from Partagas they wouldn't make the cut. I like them but I don't love them.
