MoeFOH Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Talking Cubans... talking consistency across the board: overall quality/score, construction, etc... The other day, I got to thinking that I don't recall many, if any, piramides that have failed to produce at least a good pass mark - often much better - and certainly none that have caused me to want to punt the thing off the balcony... Just a charmed run, or is there a genuine claim to being a champion of all formats here? 🤔 What's your experience? Vote in the poll. Discuss below. 1
NSXCIGAR Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 I was going to defend my vote but then I saw the results so no need! 1
Islandboy Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I can only go as far as agreeing it’s one of the best formats, but not THE best. 1
Popular Post JohnS Posted August 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2024 The best format? For me, its ring gauge would have to be two-thirds of an inch. (I.e. 42 rg) 8
Popular Post Ford2112 Posted August 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2024 The best format is the Churchill IMO. It's got a great back story, and ranks consistently as the best of the best of Cuban cigars. If I had my way the Churchill followed closely by a lonsdale would be available in every marque. Plus, it's named after this dude... 5 1
loose_axle Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 For me its the Double Corona every day of the week. But the piramide and churchill are close seconds. Not a huge fan of robustos but belicosos size have a huge place in my heart. I also read somewhere that old Winston was more fond of RyJ Piramide/ Belicosos size instead of the Churchill size associated with him. 2 1

Yes, I can't link the site as its an online vendor but here's the gist: "His favourites were notably the RyJ Piramides and the Romeo Epicure Grandes, which, unfortunately, aren’t longer part of the main line today. However, to commemorate the Statesman, Romeo y Julieta released a Churchill line."
Popular Post Li Bai Posted August 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2024 I don't really think there is such a thing as the best format. I love piramides, double coronas, lonsdales, laguitos N°1, minutos, coronas gordas and marevas. I might prefer longer formats a bit because something different happens when a cigar hits around 2h of smoking time 😍😍😍 5
gormag38 Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I get the idea of why the question was asked; HU2, P2 have been on a roll. Dip2 and VR Unico have their fervent supporters. But for me the Monte 2 kinda screws it up. While yes it is probably the most iconic, and certainly produce some amazing experiences, it is just too damn inconsistent. It's the most popular out of all of the ones mentioned above and it's not uncommon to have one that sorta 'meh'. For me personally, I love the vitola. HU2 is my go to right now. But with that being said, I'd need something with a smaller RG to claim 'the best' title. Lonsdale maybe? 3
BrightonCorgi Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Piramides are one of the least likely to be tight vitolas. You'd think Habanos had good quality control if that's the vitola you smoke regularly. 2
MrBirdman Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I would’ve chosen “Hell No” if I could. There are definitely some good pyramids, but Monte 2 is actually one of my least favorite in the entire Monte portfolio (outside the Open). 1
joeypots Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I like piramides as well as anything else. They aren’t my favorite vitola by a lot. I’m holding more corona gordas than any other vitola so I guess that’s my favorite. 1
Popular Post El Presidente Posted August 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2024 I could live off Dalia/Lonsdales and Belicosos. 5
Popular Post MagicalBikeRide Posted August 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2024 My love for Monte 2s is well known. It’s a dysfunctional relationship but I keep coming back for more. 1 7
benfica_77 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Robustos and Petit Coronas trump piramides for me.

BrightonCorgi Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I'll be the first to say I am fan of Piramides. Diplomatico No. 2 is a pass, but the rest are terrific. I am little hesitant to buy Montecristo No. 2 sight unseen. 2
Edicion Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 There's something special about a Piramides but also a Perfecto.

NeoGeo Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I'm an over-thinker anyway, but this one is tough for me for a couple of reasons. In some areas it outperforms others, but in others, fall shorter. For example, I've found there to be better consistency in taste and less so in construction...maybe just my recent luck of the draws. So I'd have to say no, for me. Definitely not the best format. I'm also a mood smoker, so depending on the mood more likely to not notice things...unless I choose something I wasn't necessarily in the mood for (usually to supply/availability). Lately the moods have leaned towards lonsdales and petit robustos. I am rarely thinking "I should have grabbed something else" with these.
