When I first saw the thread title I immediately thought of Ken. 😆

What it is, as we get to that retirement age we grow less patient with stupidity. Cigars actually make us less grumpy than we would be without them! 😂

It’s simple. Cigar smokers are smart. Getting older sucks. Therefore old cigar smokers are grumpy.

Getting older may "suck", but is sure as hell beats dying young. Which has been a history in my family. I think with age, we become less tolerant of all the BS some humans have to offer. Personally I enjoy my two dogs and parrot more than most humans. Far less drama!

True Cory.

I am blessed to get to spend time with cigar lovers across the globe and the vast majority are stand up people.

Let's face it, this is not a "cigar world" issue. Internet platforms have transformed the way communication is undertaken. It is not enough to have a YT channel, FB page, Twitter or Threads account. You have to "stand out" and find your tribe. Some do it exceptionally well. Some swing for the cheap seats.

Change in the cigar world has come at a rate of knots over the past two decades but the pace of change has accelerated in the past 5 years. It certainly makes a host of people uncomfortable, causes angst and that angst now has an immediate voice.

Kudos to all here who take the time to travel the high road when the going gets "sticky". :D

Welp, that leaves me out of this conversation. 😬

Let's face it, what had created the most angst in the last few years has been the unreasonable pace of price increase.

Maybe because the $10 cigars we love to smoke now cost us $40?

No. I think it’s more of remembering the days when I would wake up at 0530 and bounce out of bed, into the shower and be on my way 8 minutes later. Now, it’s a 45 minute ordeal with some days asking my wife’s help to put my socks on…😔

Yep, that also has a lot to do with it. And the pain you have to endure to get that box of cigars off the bottom shelf of the humidor.

That is not an easy one to get over!

Still, I made a pact in 2022, not to let myself get upset by the idiotic decisions of others.

They are just cigars people, just cigars.

.....they are still Fwits however ;)

You not only decided to not let yourself get upset, Prez you took control of your fortunes (and futures), in your own hands.

Many people gave advise on your recent EAR from the young fella considering his career choices. I bet any personal advice you may have shared could have been the most valuable.

When you let it slip that you sold some of your prized collection to fund this venture, it's literally the example of taking lemons and making lemonade.

Haha. They don't have to be old, I'm in my mid 30's and I've probably arrived at "grumpy old cigar smoker"

I think this is more of an internet thing than a cigar thing, some of the grumpiest old a**holes on the forum are still great guys to enjoy a cigar with, in person.

I can speak from experience that the constant deluge of new (and often short lived) members asking the same 5 stupid questions does get old and I completely understand the often "grumpy" replies.

1. Are my Cohibas fake? 2. What is the best Cuban cigar? 3. What is the best RH to store my cigars at? 4. Why doesn't every one of my cigars smoke perfectly from tip to tail? 5. Are vintage cigars worth the price?

If it weren't for those 5 questions, we'd all just be looking at stuff @El Presidente posted for us to put in our man caves.

What is it about cigars that transforms  so many bright eyed and enthusiastic pilgrims into grumpy insufferable know it all bores within a decade? FB/Insta/You Tube, f**k me, it is like 10 years in cigars is equivalent to three tours of Afghanistan! How do some of these people have partners?

WTF do you care? MYOB and f’ off.

Truth be told I’m happier and more patient now than ever. I’m entering my 66th year, I’ve been smoking good cigars for 30 years, I’m healthy,  working less, and have never been more satisfied or content. I’d rather be lucky than smart.

I peruse the cuban cigar reddit channel.

Cory, you'd die.

It's way worse there. I guess reddit normally attracts young newbies...but it's next level.

Haha. I'm well aware. I discovered years ago that Reddit is mostly chaff, with very little wheat.

What gets me going is when someone smokes literally 1 or 2 of a certain cigar total, and tries to speak with knowledge about that cigar and starts to opine one way or another in general about said cigar, as if an authority. It takes multiple boxes and different box codes to truly understand a cigar. I see this a lot, and certainly tons of times over the past 20 years I’ve been around cigar boards, and I think it’s really unfair to new smokers.
