I was asked this over the weekend. Black sheep of the Cuban pack?

You can look at it two ways.

1. Within a Marca, the one cigar that goes against the grain of that Marca's DNA?

2. Overall (taking into account all Marca's) the one or two Cuban cigars that stand out as being "different/unique" in terms of flavour profile?

1a) Por Larranaga Picodores - I'd say significantly different from the usual caramel that PL produces, not that that's a bad thing

1b) Partagas Maduro No 1 - I've heard some different takes on the blend. Some say it's similar to the E2 and PSD4 just tweeked to 130mm, others say it's drastically different. I'm in the latter camp, and have never had one that I enjoyed, as they honestly taste like a standard issue NC to me. Could also just be a placebo due to the dark wrapper

2) all Vegueros - some can be fairly good, especially with 5+ years on them, but young they are chock full of fresh cut grass, which is uniquely Vegueros. I'm excluding any Guantanamera, Quintero, and JLP since they're either short-filler or machine rolled

Honorable mention to Rafael Gonzalez petit coronas, cause I swear I've tasted smoked cheese in a few.

Couldn't agree more. I don't get any similarities to any other PL.

I'd suggest Mag 46 is unlike any other HU.

As far as individual cigars that stand out I think that many do. BBF, Dip 2, QdO Coronas, SP Beli, El Principe, RASCC.

1. Bolivar Libertadores. Bolivar can do no wrong for my palate, but this one always punches easy below the Bolivar mark.  It's so incredibly different than anything else.

2. HDM Rio Secco. I get a strange salty, mineral base that is unique to only this cigar.  I can't compare it to anything else and, if blind folded, certainly would not surmise I was smoking a CC.

Fonseca without a doubt.  Nothing looks remotely like a Fonseca.  No other cigar has the potpourri, incense, and marshmallow flavors of Fonseca.

2nd place would be the SP Belicoso, especially older ones.  Metallic salty taste is like no other cigars.  Heck, on some older boxes  you could see trace mineral content on the wrappers!

Mag 46. I personally love them but they depart from the typical HU. Many regionals bear no resemblance to their respective Marques. QdO Claro is very different from the other two wind tunnels. Partagas E2. It's so mellow for a Party.

E2. Never understood them. light and delicate unlike any other Partagas.

Agree on the Cazzie--a rustic cigar bearing no similarity to anything else RyJ.

Also for RyJ is the instantly recognizable Belicoso. Just has a unique flavor streak in there.

Ditto

It was a very sad day when H. Upmann discontinued my beloved Super Coronas 😭

H. Upmann Magnum 46 - Has a spicky kick which is different from other H. Upmann cigars, but tasty and delightful Corona Gorda experience.

Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios - Sweeter than other Cohiba cigars but enjoy them occasionally
