MoeFOH Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 MoeFOH's Album of the Week 🎶 Same as the movie thread, each week we're going to spotlight an album... be it a classic, new release, hidden gem, or outright turd... and open it for discussion: i.e. post up your favourite tracks, clips, lyrics, experiences if you saw live, etc... or dive deeper and give us a critique on why you think it's great, overrated, or a complete train wreck... And finally score it for us... All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's an album you want to nominate for next week's discussion. Week #45: Hotel California Wiki says: Hotel California is the fifth studio album by American rock band Eagles. Released on December 8, 1976, by Asylum Records, Hotel California was recorded by Bill Szymczyk at the Criteria and Record Plant studios between March and October 1976. It was the band's first album with guitarist Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and the last to feature founding bassist Randy Meisner. The front cover is a photograph of the Beverly Hills Hotel by David Alexander. Hotel California topped the US Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart. At the 20th Grammy Awards, the title track won Record of the Year, and "New Kid in Town" won Best Arrangement for Voices. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year but lost to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Three singles were released from the album, with the title track and "New Kid in Town" topping the Billboard Hot 100 and "Life in the Fast Lane" reaching No. 11. Hotel California is one of the best-selling albums of all time. It has been certified 26× Platinum in the US, and has sold over 32 million copies worldwide, making it the band's best-selling album after Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975). It has been ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time. In 2003 and 2012, it was ranked number 37 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". A 40th anniversary special edition of Hotel California was released in November 2017. Over to you... How do you rate it? 🤔 Thoughts, experiences, memories... post em' up! Score it out of 10! 1
Nevrknow Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 One of the first albums I listened to and will forever. Never gets old. 10/10 👍 2
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 legendary stuff. title track and new kid in town all time classics. wasted time and the last resort brilliant stuff. 2
Ford2112 Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Great track with Randy Meisner on vocals. It's gotta be up there in my favorite tracks so I'll give it an 8/10 on an album list. I get burned out on them. Now the James Gang or Joe Walsh is another matter 2
Doctorossi Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 I'd really need to listen again to decide how I feel about it. A classic, no doubt, but for me... I'm not so sure.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 I appreciate the talent and some of the songs but I've grown tired of listening to them. 2
joeypots Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 A classic, no doubt. I find as I enter my dotage that popular music I once loved is no longer to my taste. Haven’t listened to it in a long time but if Hotel California comes up on the radio I’ll turn it up to hear Joe Walsh on the guitar every time. 1
tywindsor44 Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Such a great song. Especially when you’re blasting it out on the radio with the windows rolled down and warm summer breeze. Isn’t the song about self destruction though? Maybe it’s not so good for deep thinking! Anyway, 10/10 all day! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

The title song may be the most played radio song of all time. I liked it the first 2000 times I heard it, then grew tired of it by the time I graduated high school in '79. 🤣 2
Namisgr11 Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Being a US east coast guy and having lived in SoCal for 4 years a little after this record got huge, I've always loved how the album captured a certain high living California lifestyle. Life in the Fast Lane, Hotel California, and New Kid in Town laid out with brutal honesty what it was like to be in the entertainment business at that time and place. 8.5/10 But overall, my favorite Eagles album is On The Border. More country influence and a bit less studio polish, also with several classics. 1
Puros Y Vino Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 @MoeFOH Been enjoying the music and movie posts series of yours. One suggestion if I may? With the "Album of the Week" posts. Can you include the tracklist as well?
KRunch61 Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Title track’s a classic, but I’ve heard it SO MANY TIMES that I change the station whenever it’s on. Now, if Lyin’ Eyes comes on…👍! 2
