El Presidente Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Those new to the cigar world, particularly the CC world will hear old timers lament. "I remember in the 80's and 90's that Cuban cigars were far fuller bodied" "modern strains are nowhere near as good as those in the 80's" "Everything today tastes generic, medium bodied and smokeable young" The reality maybe that we are just getting old The only tasting notes that we should be paying attention to are those who are aged below 40 "Between the ages of 40 and 50, the number of taste buds decreases, and the rest begin to shrink, losing mass vital to their operation. After age 60, you may begin to lose the ability to distinguish the taste of sweet, salty, sour and bitter foods." 4 1

I may not be able to tell if my Fundadores has notes of Hazelnut vs Almond (I'm pretty sure I never could), but I can certainly taste those 4 basic flavors. 😁

Memory and smell/taste are intertwined; it is partly through memory/association that we recall smell and taste. What I did find interesting is that one of the side affects of alzheimer's disease is the progressive loss of taste and smell. 7
cigaraholic Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Yes we’re getting old....and I still enjoy a good laugh Rob....THANKS!🤪

Popular Post 99call Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 I think @Ken Gargett once referred to a cigar in one of the FOTV reviews as "cozy, or cuddly' or something to that affect, and I think thats quite an accurate reflection of whats happened to CC's in the last 20yrs. I do not think they are bad at all, indeed they are desperately trying to be as inoffensive as possible. Whether it be and emphasis on sweetness, or big RG cigars that have a habit of being quite airy, mellow and a bit aimless, the current direction seems to be what a novice 15yr old instagrammer might want to smoke, something big and glossy, that tastes like candy bars, that they can pretend to smoke whilst taking photos of themselves. and that all sounds terrible.........but the truth is that there is a place for those cigars. When they first came out, I thought Connie A's looked ridiculous, but they can be great cigars. Mid bodied, rich, sweet, opulent, and there is something pleasing about how dense and 'cuddly' these cigars can be. LIke Rob has said in the past, there's not a massive market for gourmand stuff like SLR, Sancho Panza, Rafael Gonzalez, LGC, but these cigars that exhibit the slightly more difficult, or unusual flavour profiles, should have a 'heritage line' release every 3-5 years. People like myself and many others on this forum, could stop bitching and moaning, there would be release of Des Dieux, LGC Med 2's. SLRDC's, Connie 3's, etc etc that would drop into the market, we could stock up, and then ration until the next drop. in conclusion, I don't think there is anything wrong with the tobacco, but I do think the blending as become a bit childish and desperately wanting to satisfy the modern day market that seemingly want everything to taste like caramel fudge cake..........even 898's and BBFs' 7
Popular Post ayedfy Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 On behalf of the under-40 cohort in this group, we need to answer the call to use our superior chemosensory systems in service of the community. Let me be the first to humbly offer such services. If elder members are curious about the quality of any new or old boxes in their collection, feel free to send me a cigar from said box and I will provide a comprehensive evaluation in due course. In an additional act of selflessness I am willing to provide this free of charge. Upmann and Cohiba will receive priority treatment. 2 8

Fugu Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 My last Vegueros had been so bland, it needed a very refined palate to truly appreciate it. 😂 so much for ‘Vegueros’ (relaunch that is)...
