Bah! Who cares? When's the next time we'll see Fundadores on 24/24?... 😳

I have never watched an Oscars/Toni or Barfa ....today was no different

but I'd wager it doesn't qualify as a moral (or efficient/smart) strategy.

Especially for a “vessel of god” as he put it 😇😭

If this was staged, it would have been so much better if Jada had walked up and slapped Rock. Especially the way Hollywood is currently promoting strong women.

If this wasn't staged.  Will Smith would've been escorted out of the building.

When do you get to rush the stage, assault someone, and then hang out after?  This is all so phony, just like the people attending.

Bravado aside, at least under most circumstances, violence seems (objectively) to be a sub-optimal strategy in improving the outcome of anything; I would agree that it may be an intuitive reaction to having one's feelings hurt, mostly based on the human brain's limitation in handling stress and confusion, but I'd wager it doesn't qualify as a moral (or efficient/smart) strategy... I'm open to additional data on the subject though 😇

Fake violence at an awards ceremony is an objectively good way to boost interest in a dying event.

I'm not so sure, Kanye seems to have gotten away with a lot. They can get away with almost anything as long as they're still making money for the executives.

It sounded like Rock was going to verbally cut him down to size, but thought better of it.

These shows are terrible. They love themselves waaay too much.

Cheers

Great observation but I’d lay low if I were you. HSA might be coming for your username any minute now 😂!

He probably shouldn't have roasted the dude's wife. Especially about something so sensitive for a woman as hair loss.

Yeah let me lead with: Resorting to violence, especially in a public setting like this, says a lot about your lack of self control / Will's self restraint and where his head space is at. As the old saying goes: I completely understand why you did it, but you shouldn't have done it.

Everyone keeps referring to this as a 'joke gone wrong'. This really wasn't a joke, it was pretty much a full on roast and normally someone has to consent to a roast beforehand. Even if you ignore the social complexities of a black woman's hair, which Chris would have known being the narrator and star of the documentary "Good Hair", Jada has been public about alopecia, which is an autoimmune disease, on her self image.

So Chris says something as a 'joke' which is completely classless if you understand the context, and Will completely loses it and assaults him over it.

Will should know better, and so should Chris.

Look - Chris Rock was brought in to make jokes and while the one he told wasn’t funny and was insensitive, that’s a collateral element of both comedy and the Oscars. The hosts make fun of celebrities. Comedy is risky in that way. Was his in bad taste? Yes, but let’s not come anywhere close to equivocating on their behaviors. If you aren’t prepared to be a little offended, don’t watch or attend the Oscars (or any decent comedy for that matter) - especially if you are, or are with, a nominee.

You know what was way more tasteless? That Smith spent much of his speech essentially defending his behavior.

Definitely not equivocating, but as the movie quote goes:

Quote

f***ing Marsellus knew it, and Antoine should have f***ing better known better. I mean, that's his f***ing wife, man, he can't be expected to have a sense of humor about that sh*t. You know what I'm saying?

absolutely. i cannot ever imagine having the time, or the interest to do so. apparently one overpaid tosser tried to slap (who slaps? not worth a serious punch?) another overpaid tosser. and the world goes berserk. just as well nothing important happening anywhere.

who are toni and barfa?

Not sure how it is abroad but in US or Canadian culture a man slapping another man would be considered pretty disrespectful. So in this case Will slapped him presumably because he wanted to communicate the same level of disrespect his wife got.

in oz, slapping someone would likely bring more disrespect on the slapper than the slappee. not that i am advocating for violence in any form but if you ate going to whack someone, then do it properly.

Let’s keep in mind that Marcellus was a husband and a sociopathic crime boss.

Also, it was clearly a cheap-shot. Rock thought he was going to do an improv or at worst have words with him.

Maybe, but you know how I know it was funny? Because Will Smith laughed at it.

Will should slap himself, not Chris Rock.

You can't make fun of a man's balding wife during one of the most important awards of his career and expect not to get slapped. Will Smith was laughing but he may have been slow to get the joke. Don't agree with what he did but Chris Rock was a bit out of line with that one.

I could never sit through the Oscars or any of the other award shows. Not my thing. Not sure if it was staged or not. If it was, that would be about as pathetic as one ( The Oscars) could get trying to create awareness.  If not, one part of me thinks it’s good he had the “onions” to actually get up and do that but the other part of me thinks if his skin is that thin he shouldn’t be in situations where a comedian is making fun of people in the crowd. Also a great way for him to real damper on what was supposed to be a great night out.
