Club Cigar Stand

I want to brag and share my experience of creating a stylized cigar stand for the Korolev's Cigar Club, of which I am also a member.

The design of the stand is quite common and well-known for FOH: two plates connected through a slot.

The design is defined by the club's logo, which is a R-2 rocket mounted on the pedestal of the main entrance to the city of Korolev.

 

 

 

The city of Korolev is named after Sergei Korolev, one of the main creators of Soviet rocket and space technology, a key figure in space exploration.

 

I suggested stylizing a cigar stand for rocket stabilizers and the teammates agreed. Then we decided to add the possibility of vertical installation of a cigar, which symbolizes the comic motto of the club "Smoke a cigar with ashes up!". I made drawings in AutoCAD.

 

There were several material options: plywood, carbon fiber, stainless steel. Two processing options: waterjet and laser CNC cutting.

 

We settled on stainless satin finished steel with a thickness of 2 mm and laser cutting.

The parts were made without additional processing, it turned out to be quite budget-friendly and neat.

Good technology, I advise to pay attention for such projects.

As for international shipping, it is difficult for me. I think Rob can do it better There is a free idea, I think it's not a problem to find an industrial laser in Australia, also you can get beautiful colors by heat treatment or etching.

When asked how the US beat the Russians to the moon, one of the NASA program directors was quoted as saying "Simple. Our Germans were better than their Germans!" In the late stages of the war, the US rushed to Peenemunde to capture them. Wehrner von Braun actually became the 1st head of the US space agency (NASA), under much criticism...

Anyway, I REALLY NEED one of those! 😍

Of course, we know the fact that this is an upgraded A-4/V-2/FAU-2. When it was proposed to be installed on a pedestal there were many protests
But it was a dead-end technology and the rocket that sent Gagarin into space - it was the brainchild of Soviet engineers.

Loving the history lessons. We all know about von Braun but seems like we only got bits and pieces. And of course Russian history was hard to come by when I was younger. Thanks from a certified history nut.
