Popular Post JohnS Posted May 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2020 My sister, Anne got married this weekend. It was a wedding like no other (I'd been to). Firstly, the groom, George, has the same name as my father, son and brother-in-law (i.e. my wife's brother). Secondly, because of Covid-19, my sister has had to be resolute in re-arranging everything due to social restrictions, she couldn't have the 300 or so people she wanted to share this occasion with. Thirdly, the church service had 5 people because that is all that is allowed to attend a wedding currently (but if you are attending a funeral you can have 10) in the state of New South Wales. I've never been to a church service in a Greek church with so few people. Finally, the reception was at the groom's family home. It was an intimate occasion which mimicked my parents wedding reception in October 1970. You see, in those times, it was common for European-background immigrants to Australia to celebrate their weddings in their homes. This tradition has since passed with subsequent generations. I never thought I would attend a wedding reception like this one, and especially for my sister. It was a wedding like no other, but I wouldn't have it any other way. P.S. I included my parents wedding photo because it seems like yesterday, not 50 years. I see our resemblance (to them) in both my sister and myself. 37 2

Rhinoww Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Congrats John. It is always a blessing to celebrate with a bride and groom, particularly if that includes your sister. Beautiful photos. and congrats to the newlyweds. I have a cousin in Toronto whose daughter was supposed to be married next week. They had to delay until the grooms parents can arrange a flight from the mideast, which may not be until August at the earliest. Then they too will be married and have a reception in my cousin’s house. Strange times but love marches on 1

BTWheezy Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Congratulations John to the newlyweds, and the respective families. I love it when people come together and deal with the situation at hand, making the best out of it. Nothing else you can do except embrace the day, embrace the couple, and have another beverage! A wedding that will *always* be remembered! 1
