I joined a decent cigar club in Baltimore and left a few sticks in the locker for about 2 months. This is what a nice Partagas D4 looked like when I opened the door. The manager of the place tried to

Happy to be proven wrong with a repeatable substance found that is other than mould.  What we can comfortably say is that what "99%" of what people thought was plume.....is indeed mould. We stopp

It’s basically an op-ed, completely void of fact. The claim that the Tatuaje pictured is an example and result of perfect storage in ideal conditions pretty much says it all about the crazy factor inv

That writer should be deeply ashamed of himself. First he says the FOH study tested 10 cigars. It was a lot more than that. And mold was 100% responsible.

Then he goes on to REPEAT THE SAME TIRED MISINFORMATION that “plume is not made up” and that it forms due to “perfect storage” of cigars. WHERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE OF EITHER CLAIM??

This really burns my butt. The writer is an ass.

They seem to have completely overlooked the second round that specifically focused on cigars with a crystalline coating as well.

Clearly it's an argument from authority! As he stated his credentials "I am not an expert by any means...". No evidence needed! Authority needs no scientific backing, you see.?

Wow, just wow.  I read every comment in the FOH study as it was transpiring and if I remember correctly, some of what appeared to be crystals, were colonies of bacteria, not even mold!  That one photo in the article showcasing that Tatuaje, yuck!

Tobacco in a cigar is about as alive as the pickles in my refrigerator. Maybe he should send those plume filled cigars in for some of prezs store credit. Oh wait... they must turn out to be plume. Never mind. Let them think what they want. A little mold never hurt nobody.

Thanks very much Rob. It appears I have wiped all of my perfectly stored plume off all of my perfectly stored cigars.

How you could you do this to me. I thought we were friends.

Oh well ...hopefully my plume grows back some day .

That Tat cigar is mold all day long .

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

There's no way that Tat cigar that's almost solid white is not moldy... lol... Sometimes cigars have a very slight "dusty" appearance that's not mold but that tatuaje is moldy AF!

I left a comment but it will not get approved. I love that moldy tat brown label picture. If you're so sure get it tested...

Looks like you aren’t the only one roasting his article.

My very good friend that got me into cigars had a 20 year old cigar we were smoking. I wiped off the white dusting on the cigar. It was a pretty amazing cigar. But then he went on to show the plume on the cigar.

Because he was such a good friend, I had to tell him that it was mold. Light dusting, but still mold. It's never plume. Just mold. He got very quiet and I started to feel bad about it. But I feel I had to tell him.

Still a great friend thankfully. And it was still a great cigar.

I want the IQ points back that I lost from reading that.

Geez. That article hurt my brain. I'm pretty sure I lost IQ points reading it.

My feelings exactly - that piece of brain farting is an offence to any reader. Comments say it all, reaping what he sowed.

I've long come to the conclusion - while there may be dustings on wrappers that can be different from mould, and neither being a sign of perfect storage for that matter - "plume" is just a centuries-old euphemism for "mould".

???

Lol I missed this gem. Sugars and salts are the only compounds that I know of that crystallize. Oil would be the last thing to crystallize. Maybe hes mistaking his sugar as oil in his 4 year old perfectly stored on a gas station shelf Swisher Sweets.
