OK, this topic almost resulted in a recent Friday deck fisticuffs.

It will be hard to select your two favourites....but have a crack.

If you are missing an option, apologies in advance but we had to draw a line at the majors.

Feel free to comment as to your favourites and make note of one that you love...... but is not on the list!

Indian and Mexican for me. I love eating and making curry and the fresh vibrant flavours of Mexican food keep me coming back. Better still both are surprisingly easy to cook yourself.

Went with Italian and Vitenamese as one embodies continental cuisine across the board going north to south.

Vietnamese as the range is amazing and the French influences introduce a delicacy not found in most other Asian cooking.

Missing was Malaysian, some of the best food on the planet.

I put down Japanese and Turkish,   but instead of Turkish, would rather vote 'Middle Eastern'   such a wonderful cuisine, and amazing variety

I definitely like just about any cuisine but when they are at their best, I really enjoy Japanese or Italian

I would have picked Chinese as my first and Malaysian as my second favourite cuisine. Then again, I am kind of biased being mostly Chinese Malaysian. However as Malaysian wasn't there, I went for Thai as my second.

Had to go Chinese as my favourite, as there is so much diversity. Previously, there were 4 great Chinese traditional styles, but now they recognise 8 styles. Each is representative of a major province/region in China; Anhui, Shandong, Cantonese, Hunan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Sichuan & Fujian (the last one being where most of my ancestors come from).

If I were to have the chance to dine my way across China I would probably find the same. We have some great authentic Sichuan close by, Run across Hunan and Cantonese as well though the latter mostly Americanized. Which style would Guangzhou cuisine fall under?

Thai and Mexican. I lived in Thailand for two years and just fell in love with the cuisine. And since I moved to Texas, Tex-Mex is quite good.

Guangzhou cuisine (Guangdong province) falls under Cantonese/Yue style cuisine.

Went with Italian and Thai.  I might have picked Chinese but the Chinese cuisine I get here isn't authentic...I ashamedly (is this a word?...it should be) enjoy Americanized Chinese food. General Tso's chicken and pork fried rice. Funnily one of my favorite Thai dishes is Pad Thai which was created by Chinese immigrants in Thailand...I guess one of the options should have been food created by Chinese immigrants.?

Recently actually had a similar conversation with my family where we were to "pick one single cuisine, where you can only have that for the rest of your life", sis, mum and myself all picked Jap. Dad tried to be different and said he'd pick French instead. However, while I love French food, I cannot get away from comfort food that I have had since young such as soup noodles and/or porridge/congee. As far as I know, these don't generally exist in non-Asian cuisines.

For this poll, I picked both French and Jap as I think these are the most diverse cuisines around. They also have the most diverse cooking styles within the cuisine, and have more nuanced tastes. (all my own opinion)

I am amazed how high Mexican is on the list.  We certainly get lousy Mexican in this country.

I went with French and Thai.

Thai will have to stand in for Lao. Most americans don't even know that Laos exists; where it is; how to pronounce it; what djstinguishes Lao food from Thai food; etc. Most Lao food in the us is served in restaurants labeled as Thai. My #1 comfort food is hot-hot-hot Lao drunken noodles with pork.

The French... invented cooking. Go ahead and bash me. That said, I'll qualify that my latest obsession is Basque food. Basque is one of only a handful of ethnicities/cuisines that are not significantly respresented in either dc or new york. It's such a rich and mouthfeel-bountiful cuisine, and an amazing culture. Where I'm living now, is the largest Basque diadpora in the americas. I'm in heaven.
