joeypots Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 HDM EPI #1 Tubos from '14. Sometimes they do put dog shit cigars in tubos. Flat, lifeless, and uneven burn that refused to stay lit. If this had been my first rodeo I'd a sworn off of Cubans.
Guantanamera Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Quite a response to the topic. I was trying to do a review for the petite corona weekend review and had selected a Monte 3 as my choice. This cigar as well as a few more from the same box were gifted to me by a friend. The box was from 2017, don't remember the code, and purchased in Cuba. Recently we have had some epic rainfall so, I think the humidity was part of the issue as I was smoking outside. Anyway, the thing had a super tight draw made worse by the humidity in combination with a tunnel made it virtually unsmokeable. I gave up and pitched it!
Akela3rd Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 PLPC TOS FEB 17 a few days ago. Got in from work and really needed to chill out. Tight as a knat's chuff. Used the PerfecDraw to no avail once I managed to screw, hammer and generally force it in. Pulled out wads of tobacco but still couldn't get a draw. Gave up and had a BPC instead, spending my time taking the PLPC apart.Sent from 47171 Lempo
CampDelta369 Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 HdM Excalibur No.1 Presidente. Honduran, Nicaraguan, CT Shade wrapper. Excellent construction, perfect draw, perfect burn and yet the flavor was old cigarette ashtray?! I was completely dumbfounded. I actually smoked past the first 1/3 with no reprieve. It has never happened to me, to put down a perfect burning stick with 6" to go? It was not as bad as the RYJ Churchill A/T from a shop in Caribbean in '96... That was a banana leaf and rat hair compote of the worst order. It took some RUM to rinse that flavor, My first official FAKE. Welcome to the show you Tourist!

Why does the dimple under the cap suggest the cigar was constructed properly?
daleighan Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 I tried a 2001 Diplomaticos No. 5 that was completely unsmokable about a month ago. It was just too tight and would not light up properly or stay lit. Not even the Perfecdraw could save it.
Erm310mce Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Cohiba Siglo 1 OPA DIC 09 Rolled so tight, big knot near the head. I tried the draw poker, massaged it, whispered sweetly to it.. nothing ditched it and enjoyed an Upmann half corona.
Jal154 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 A PLPC like 10 minutes ago. Absolutely no draw. Not even a chance. There was an area about midway, a half inch long it was just like a rock. Couldn’t light it. Tried to poke it. Nothing. Broke it in half and threw it in the lake! ??
Kitchen Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 A Cohiba Maduro Genios that was part of a sampler. Never had one and I was looking forward to that stick the most. Lit it up and it tasted amazing, for the first three draws. Then it tunneled real bad. I cut off the top 1.5 inches and relit. Same thing, tasted real good but then it tunneled, so I had to chuck it. Thankfully I got a sampler of the Genios, and the one I had was real good.
Jbhunter223 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I have a ‘16 box of Boli PC, 95% of them had fireproof wrappers and tunneled the whole way. Thought some down time would help.... it has not.
mpq Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Cohiba lancero. Every one I have tried has been so plugged I have had to throw it out...

That's some coin to have to throw out. I am super new to CC and have not had to pitch any yet. That said I have a box of RyJ that the first one was super plugged and started unraveling 1/3 of the way in but was still able to smoke it. All of the 3 I have smoked were harsh and one dimensional with not very good construction. They had 3 years on them when I purchased them but I don't see them getting any better RAU SEP 16. Back in the day I smoked several Onyx torpedo's that were always had the tightest draw. Now that they renamed all their cigars they seem to be rolled much better.

wineguy Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 About a week ago I had a Monte 1 on the golf course that was un smokeable ESL JUN 17. Most from that and other boxes have been fine.
Akela3rd Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Have you had others from that cab? I have two cabs with the same code... but haven't cracked them yet. That was No. 32 out of the box. Most have been fine, a couple of tight ones but nothing too troublesome. This one was a beast. Generally been good in both construction and taste. It'll be fine I'm sure.Sent from 47171 Lempo
shadowACE Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Mine was this passed Friday after a long week at work and with upcoming wedding related events on the weekend I decided to get some me time in. Tried to smoke a PSD 4 box code BUP AGO 17. No matter what I did it would stay lit and horrendous construction, had to over puff on it and it ran crazy hot to help correct it. Eventually I gave up in the 1/3. When you get a dud do you go back to the humidor and grab another or do you just call it quits? I had the same issues with some, about 6, PSD4 from '17 as well. Wrapper was fireproof, I swear. When I was finally able to get it burning it just tunneled to no end. Storage conditions are optimal and none of my other cigars have given me burn issues. jackupster Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 HU Mag 56 EL...plugged to hell and bored the hell out of it with a Perfectdraw...helped only a little bit. Trashed after less than half.
Boogeyman81 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 CC was a PLPC from I believe FEB '17. Absolutely no draw, I was going to have an anuerism trying to pull smoke through it. I'm not too confident in the rest of the box NC, I had a Rocky Patel Edge a couple days ago that barely made it halfway. I'm not a big RP fan but I expected to at least taste like I was smoking tobacco and not dirty cardboard.

One of them I had packed for a long drive home after a meeting. Fired up and drove off. Had to pull in 5 minutes later. Zero draw. Absolutely plugged to hell. Tried in vain lighting and puffing, lighting and puffing. No joy. I eventually slammed it into the ground at speed in disgust. Along with many choice words. I'd only packed the one. A few weeks later the next one was 100/100. Absolutely biblical experience. The sweetest, tastiest cigar in the last 5 years. Just sublime. That's our hobby. You roll with the punches but get rewarded massively.

I couldn't in good conscience trade or sell them off and I don't believe in wasting cigars, so I try one every few months. The first third is usually tolerable, but when the troubles start, I toss it and grab something different. HA! I just got a PSP box of MOE Oct 14's in, they look and smell fantastic so hopefully I have better luck!

TBird55 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Well it appears that no vitola or marca are immune from a fail. My last was a PLPC 17, plugged, rest of cab fine so far, (4 or 5)
