jsd Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Sad news. Didn't know him but have seen him here and on other boards. His posts were always insightful. RIP.
OZCUBAN Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Very sad news indeed ,though I did know Van in person we had a few great chats over the last few years ,he was a straight shooter and passionate about Cigars ,and tou would not want it any other way Rest in peace brother OZ
asmith Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 A great loss to cigar family. I am just recalling with Rob about the different cigars he would send to us for tasting and comment. I hope Van is enjoying a cigar with Tampa.
PigFish Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Another of the old guard swept off the wall. A polarizing character, somewhat like myself, I enjoyed his perspective, while at times disagreeing with it. We certainly rallied around our love of bygone cigars. We were not friends, but like colleagues. I used to fight with him rather bitterly on CA, must be a decade ago now, and came to respect him and enjoy his company here. I have enjoyed his input over the years and will miss it going forward. I wish I knew him well enough to call him my friend, but sadly not. I liked the man well enough! God's speed amigo. Stash me some of the old Diplomaticos... as we are due to meet again sooner or later. There is too damn much death around. -the Pig
ChanceSchmerr Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Really sad to read this - I will miss his commentary and feisty contribution to FOH I'm sure wherever he is now, he has made it a better place for being there.
Hugomarink Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I'm so sorry to hear this. I've seen Van on various cigar boards for years and traded with him as well. Seemed like a great guy. RIP my friend.

j0z3r Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I regret not knowing Van as a relative newcomer to this forum, but all the same I'm saddened at the loss of a brother. My heart goes out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

cgarner Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Very sad news indeed. Rest in Peace Van. My thoughts are with you and your family. Too bad such tragic events bring life back in to perspective. I can't tell you how many times I jump on here and want to see the new video review or LFTH. Events like this make me slow down and remember what really brings me back and what makes this community so great.
