MSU AGO 18 Partagas Serie E No. 2. Very nice Claro wrappers, the construction is excellent and the burn has been almost perfectly straight. I’m getting all the flavors that I enjoy from a good Partagas. This is the second out of this box of five and both have been exceptional. MSU seems to be quite a good code from what I’ve seen here on the forum. I have some UAO with darker wrappers so I’ll have to pull a box of those out and see how they compare.16 points

Juan López Selección No.2 MEL Dic 2016 The Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2 has been a forum favourite in the last 2 years, having enjoyed a resurgance only bettered by the re-branding of the Quai d'Orsay marca. I tend to find them a little too strong for my liking when in their youth, although today's example seemingly 'turned-a-corner' from this box. Despite being two-and-a-half years old, the first third of this cigar was the first time I got such a strong orange citrus and chocolate flavour from the 'get-go' out of four cigars smoked from the box. My palate very much connected with this profile. Towards the end of the first third I got an uneven burn develop in the wrapper and unfortunately it didn't self-correct this time, so I touched it up, but thankfully I needed no more re-lights. At this point I picked up strong notes of white pepper and espresso coffee, although still with a little orange citrus and chocolate. The final third was all toasted tobacco and it got a little more intense in flavour delivery, yet I still had no issue smoking this down, I didn't finish it early as overall it was a good smoke. With a quarter of the box consumed (as I have given away three for other cigar enthusiasts to enjoy), I can safely say that these need more time down for me as the cigar was medium-full to full in strength in the back half and I much prefer them milder. I look forward to re-visiting them in a year or two.15 points

This cigar came to me via last year's UK Box Pass courtesy of @99call. It has a mid to dark velvety wrapper and is a nice size in the hand. The cut gives a very light draw and the faint smell of dried fruit. 1 - Small puffs due to the lightness of the roll. Slightly musty, walnut, dried fruit, coconut (really?). There's a slight creaminess to smoke which is very pleasing indeed. Mushroom. Ash falls easily. Then a hit of dark chocolate and something like smell of washing powder. There's lots going on in this little bugger. More nuts. Sweetness, floral. 2- Strength upped from milder to under medium. Something undefinable of the Middle East about it - very distant sweet spices. Beautiful creamy mouth feel. 3- A spicy tingle develops on the tongue, almost minty, but still just a hint on the breeze. Then biscuit and a return of the mushroom. Then the Mrs wanted a try - after a few enjoyable puffs she came up with "Licorice. The warm pavement of a pre-soaked Barcelona street. 100% Spanish wood (licorice root)" I wrestled it back for the last knockings and was met with a slight metallic kick on last drag, not unpleasant and an interesting final twist. Bloody marvellous 40 minute smoke. Thanks Stefan! Solid 9/10 Sent from 47171 Lempo10 points

Excellent condition. Old band is present. Aroma at cold: sweet cedar. 1/3: cedar, coffee&milk, salt, syrup. Clear taste. Low strength, medium body. The taste increases as I smoke. 2/3: there are no major changes, but after the ash is broke, instantly change the taste: there is fried hazelnuts. Coffee already without milk - pure espresso. Wood-coffee-nut profile. Powerful blend. 3/3: explosive growth of taste. Added dark caramel and flavors mixed. Great Cuban mix. Conclusion: the cigar was perfectly rolled and well preserved. The taste was clean, but not degraded. Good balance of strength and body. I wish I'd bought a box. Smoking time: 2 hours. Rating: 5/5 stars9 points

Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills LAT Feb 2018 The last Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill I had around 2 months ago was strictly-speaking, average. This was definitely a step up and pleasantly complex through the thirds. The first third began well with strong berry, turkish delight and a hint of creaminess, much like the very best RyJ Churchills I've had in the last 12 to 24 months. The cigar changed towards the end of the first third as the wrapper burn became uneven, but I resisted the temptation to correct the burn and it even out by itself. At this point I got a lot of spice kicking in. Towards the halfway point the cigar evolved again, with a strong anise flavour flourishing and enveloping the flavours in the last third. Unlike my previous RyJ Short Churchills from this box, there were no bitter chocolate or wood flavours to be found. In comparison to recent RyJ Churchills I've smoked, this Short Churchill was a tad stronger, medium-mild to medium, but still faithful to its marca profile, which made it a delight to smoke.9 points

Decided to smoke a Short from a HQ 50 cab I got from Prez. Each and everyone has been satisfying. Paired with a Canadian stout. Aroma was very pungent, cedar, barnyard. Draw was perfect. 1st: started off sweet, bell pepper and woody. Burn was very good, it only required a touch up early on. 2nd: big transition where it became full bodied, spicy, pepper with some cedar notes. 3rd: started to get some espresso notes along with that classic Partagas spice. Nice slow burn, took just over an hour. I am somewhat of a slow smoker. This cab is only getting better. But I find these cigars to be very approachable young. Thank you @HopeUgood for sending me these great '15 Shorts! I decided to have one for this Partagas Review weekend after a month rest. These cigars have been in a Tupperdor registering 59-60RH on a constant basis. We've had some days of heavy humidity in Northern California but for the most part mid 50s RH. A little dry boxing, and this cigar (I have a method for figuring out it's RH) was registering 58RH. Perfect condition for today's review. Started out great, cedar, nutmeg and caramel. I'm guessing the coffee and earth have blended nicely to get to this caramel flavor. Age may have mellowed the flavors a bit but I can clearly taste them. Second third brings with it an earthy vanilla flavor. Caramel gone. Less sweet now. Almost floral. Final third is not as great for me. Woody bark and buttery. I'm not going to nub this one. Maybe age has removed some of the flavor I find in younger examples. Score: 856 points

Nice looking colorado wrapper, well filled at 5.7 gr. with a perfect resistance draw. Rolling the cigar in my mouth before I cut it the wrapper tastes so delicious, something that very rarely happens with today’s cigars. Fist puff I get that wonderful sweet Italian leather flavor that screams Partagas to me. Next few puffs are very peppery, then it settles down to earthy, creamy toasted tobacco. After the first few blasts of pepper It’s gone from medium full to medium bodied, burn and draw are perfect. It’s fun to smoke a cigar that changes almost every puff, chile pepper, mushroom, chocolate, coffee, with a base of creamy toasted tobacco. A lovely 70 minute finger burning trip down memory lane ?6 points

I received this cigar in a sampler from El Pres from winning something last year (I honestly forget what, maybe a review) so I don't know box codes on it. Good construction, nice smell to it, not too squishy nor too hard. I've only had a few limited editions, so while I see the hate often expressed about them I was open to trying it out. I do love Partagas. Standard V cut, good predraw, toasted well and lit well. I've seen others talk about problems staying lit or uneven burn or tunneling, but for the most part mine was good in all that. A tad uneven in the last third, but overall it burned well. HUGE, lovely billowing clouds of smoke though, good lord. Were I Gandalf or Bilbo perhaps I would have been able to blow intricate smoke rings, but I just let it waft away. Consistent flavors for me for the most part - chocolate, some light cream, maybe a tad of earth and later on almost a tinge of mushroom. Overall I'd say chocolate. Not the cocoa of a Monte 4, a tad smoother than that. Hints of cream around the edges, perhaps a tiny bit of the partagas spice, but nothing like a short or D4. Overall really good cigar. But big for what I tend to like, but good flavors and those clouds of smoke! Looking at the prices, a tad more than I'd spend for anything on a regular basis, but as a treat it would be worth it. Call it high 80's, maybe an 88.6 points

BBF 2018 singles. Complete 180 from my first bbf a month or so ago. What a difference rest and dry boxing make. Nutty, spicey, sweet (honey?) and leathery goodness. All the flavors are powerful and this is one of the richest cigars I’ve had. This finally lead me to experience what others have described as chewy smoke...i now get it. It’s like the smoke has density. I don’t know how to gauge body but I have to think this is a full-bodied cigar. I enjoy the in-your-face intensity but I could see where some time down could do this good by melding and mellowing the flavors...though not convinced I’m unhappy with current delivery. Excellent cigar. Have a great weekend, FOHers update: for every inch I smoke from this cigar I slouch an inch lower in my chair. There’s no hide n’ seek with the nicotine in this one. Afternoon RASS I could smoke this every day. Cherry pie filling and dark honey with the leather mitigating the sweetness.6 points
