FOH'ers Daily Smoke

I’m celebrating my 10 year old daughter making the travel basketball team.  We got the email this morning. They only pick 10 girls and there is no participation trophy, you either make the team or you don't.  She wanted it so bad, and even though she had no doubts that she would make it, I was really nervous.  Not because I didn't think she was good enough.  I do.  But I was worried about it being political.  A lot of other fathers participate in the league, but since I work so much, I cant.  Also, what if she had an off day at the tryouts?
Anyway, I wanted to smoke some good cigars today.
I started with a Siglo VI, early this morning, before we even got the email, because I always smoke a Siglo VI at the end of a 24 hour shift.  Then I moved on to some other good stuff.

It appears to me you do smoke Siglo VI all day... you're either smoking a beautiful cohiba or at the golf course, I want to live that way....I might have to start buying more Cohiba! ha, keep it up, and enjoy the last leg of golf season

I know many think they aren’t worth the hype but when your B&M sells them at a normal mark up I think they’re tough to beat.

That was kind of my experience with this one. I like Nicaraguans every once in awhile, and this one started off strong, but overall wasn’t any better than a good Olivia v Melanio which I found it similar to and costs more.

Felt the urge to try one of these after watching Rob & Ken reviewing their aged vs new video on youtube yesterday. Unfortunately I don’t have a fresh one of these for comparison. I could have gone to the local b&m today to pick one up but they are having a Rocky Patel event today  Just kidding, I really don’t remember how RP cigars taste as it has been +10 years sinde I’ve tried one. The event already sold out I think and I wouldn’t have been able to partake in all aspects of the event, so better leave the seat for a person who would be able to enjoy it more than I.

Quai d'Orsay No. 50 SMA Jul 2018

Like the Trinidad La Trova, I've had enough of these now to qualify the Quai d'Orsay No.50 as a quality release. I've found the flavours consistent, construction excellent and ash-length and burn likewise, exemplary.

For me, these have what El Pres describes as an egg and butter Brioche soft bread flavour and texture to them. I've found that they also have a little cedar and ginger and/or toffee sweetness. The wrappers tends to be silky smooth and a consistent lighter colorado claro to claro wrapper shade on them.

I am still astounded by how much in demand these are, but yes, the reason for this is because the hype is indeed justified.

I must confess, in being a long time QDO fan, i'm not surprised in the least. I think the real biting point was that the last Imperiales and the 2015-16 Coronas really lifted their nose up on the appearance of the wrappers. They always had the flavour.....but then they started to look the part also.

To me when you line up the flavour profiles of Cohiba and QDO alongside one another:

Cohiba,    Honey, Hay, Citrus, Lemongrass, Butter, Cream, 

QDO,       Orange rind, Brioche, Anise, Cedar, Cream, Oats, 

To me the second list, not only sounds more indulgent, but also more intriguing.      I know I'm a bit down on Cohiba, but I think the majority are realising they can get something better, or equal to Cohiba, for less than half the price.     When you put it like that, it's not wonder people go bananas.

Another from EPM JUL 18.  This one was WHOA...

Complexity right from the first few puffs.  Toasted tobacco, twang, nuts, cream/butter, light cocoa, popcorn and oats.  It had the citrus, too, but it was really rich and dark – sort of like a ripe blood orange.  The second and last thirds also gave me earth and leather.  All the flavors moving freely in and out. Wow.  It's really nice to get a cigar like this once in a while.  At 15 months, can anyone ask for anything more from any cigar?

Celebrating my son’s 8th birthday with a 2011 RA Allones Extra, the year of his birth. Sadly I have one left and need to find more to enjoy one on his birthdays. I have several boxes of the RA club allones 2015 for my daughter’s birthdays. They should last until she is 21.
