PigFish Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I saw this picture posted by a member showing off his lovely new box of cigars and I noticed a detail I though worthy of discussion. How many of you untie ribbons? I have never done this! As a matter of fact, knowing the knot is at the bottom of the box, I have never even contemplated the thought of untying a ribbon to get to the cigars. I have unsnapped Partaga Privada ribbons... but that was the only means by which to access the cigars. As a matter of curiosity, do you extract... cut or untie? -Piggy
Tampa1257 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Neither I will gently remove one cigar at a time from the bundle leaving the ribbon tied. After the first cigar is removed, all others are very easy to remove. I can not tell you how many ribbons I have stuck in a drawer somewhere, but it is a lot!

You are an extractor. I am the same. I have tons of tied ribbons stashed in old boxes somewhere! As an extractor I almost always get my first cigar from the middle of the bundle.
laficion Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi Piggy, You can also call me an extractor, I then untie and place it in a box that I've had now for many years. Very soon I plan to frame them all with some kind of design, I'm still not yet sure what I'll come up with but the frame is going to be quit big and I would like it to be at least a little artistic to put in my cigar room.
habone Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 That knot was easy to undo... most aren't from the little quantities that i have. I leave the other 1s tied. great post though I always wondered what other guys did.

I use the ribbon to lift the bundle for the initial check but after that, the bundle stays undisturbed except for when I go to retrieve a cigar for smoking. Wilkey
micahzeff Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I am also an extractor. This thread reminded me of something I saw on pbs a couple of years ago, a jacket made from cigar ribbons. Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/200605A40.html
BigGuns Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 another extractor here. pull gently, remove, replace. repeat.
canucks6024 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I just cut it. When I want a cigar, I want a cigar. Phil
Colt45 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Extractor, but not a saver. I've long since stopped saving bands and like trappings.
anacostiakat Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Extractor as well. I dont keep boxes, bands or ribbons.
dball Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Extractor... ribbons make really cool bookmarks.
ucla695 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Another extractor here. It never occurred to me to untie the ribbon.
