El Presidente Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Montecristo No 2 V Partagas P 2 Answer the poll questions assuming age of the cigars and construction quality being equal Of course, answer only if you have tried both.
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted May 27 Popular Post Posted May 27 Boy this a tough one. So dependent on which version you get of each. Overall, for the best version I’ve had of each, Monte wins. 8
Popular Post Mike Mecklenburg Posted May 27 Popular Post Posted May 27 Coin toss but give the nod to Monte. 7
Popular Post REesq Posted May 27 Popular Post Posted May 27 Two of my favorite cigars. First off, I love Piramides /belicosos. My three most smoked cigars of all time have to be the BBF, P2 and Monte 2 pretty, much in that order. I love those Partagas rich chocolate wrappers. Generally, I tend toward the Monte when I’m looking for something a bit lighter, say for a nice lunch when I know I need to get back to the office and get some work. But if I were stranded on a desert island and I only got one of these, it would have to be the P2. 8
Popular Post Ford2112 Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 Never a big fan of the Party 2. Monte 2 are iconic when they are on. 8
Popular Post riderpride Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 6 years ago it would have been P2. M2 has been lights-out recently, so I'd go with that. Cheers! 6
Popular Post Lucas Buck Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 Two of my favorites. Monte 2 was the cigar that began my love affair with Cuban cigars. A good P2 runs it pretty close but the Monte is an all timer for me. 9 2
Popular Post BG318 Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 P2 is a nice cigar but the Monte 2 is one of my top 5 CCs. I just had them both side by side last month, both from 2023, and it was not close. Not a knock on P2 but Monte was just such a memorable smoke. 7

Coincidentally, my top three are BFF, M2, and P2. However, if I compare THE BEST I've had of those three, the best BFF I've smoked is tops, and the best M2 I've had is better than P2. So my answer is Monte 2. 8
Popular Post westg Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 That is tough for sure. Love them both. PSP days going back a while to 2014 the Monte 2 was the best run of Cuban cigars I have had, they were the best cigars I have smoked. Savoury and sweetness, a touch of orange peel and spice. Monte 2 has my vote. 6
Popular Post Fuzz AI Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 Monte 2, hands down. The P2 never really did it for me. Probably around half of the P2 I've smoked have been mediocre, to my taste buds. Most of the Monte 2 I have smoked have been on the money. Sometimes you get a dud, but them's the breaks when so many are produced. I still remember the vintage Monte 2 Rob Fox gave to me in Havana. That was a glorious smoke. 9
Popular Post Li Bai Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 I've had decent P2s in the past but never an outstanding one, I've never spent as much money over the years on a cigar that widely disappoints me 90% of the time as I did with that Partagas...I'm done with it, Monte 2 hands down. 6

Popular Post JohnS Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 I don't think I've had a Partagas Serie P No.2 that has "wowed' me in quite the same way that a Montecristo No.2 has. For that reason, I feel that I always need to have a Montecristo No.2 on-hand in my humidor. I don't feel the same way about the Partagas Serie P No.2. 9
Popular Post cnov Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 I went P2 all the way, contrary to the masses. I've had a 10 box of each so far, I've not exactly been wowed by either but there were at least 2 stand out P2's that swung me their way. I have an orange stickered box of M2 that this thread has made me curious to crack. 7
Popular Post BrightonCorgi Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 For the last 15 years or so it's been the P2 for me. Monte No.2 are too 'iffy' unless buying a known good code or I picked them out myself. Eary 2000's the Monte No. 2 was the winner, but not now for me. 5
Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 The Monte 2 has always been 50/50 for me. I can grab one and love it. The next one will just be "OK". The P2 has been far more consistent and fuller bodied. But...both take a back seat to the VR Unicos. 7
Popular Post TheCigarSoldier Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 Montecristo No 2. will always feel like reconnecting with an old friend. Will always have a special place in my heart, some of the best cigars I have ever had were Monte 2's. I'll be the first to admit, you can find a sea of average ones out there in the 7.5-8.5 range. But now and again you will score a box that the cigar gods must have personally made. Just a perfect expression of everything a cigar should be. 5

P2 is in 3rd place. 5

Had one about a year ago and I was blown away. At this point, like everything else, they're more expensive than I'd like so I won't be stocking up. I'm still good on VR and P2 stock. 3

For me, I am too slow to the draw and never get an opportunity to any of those three. 3
Popular Post joeypots Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 Right now I'm working on a box of P2s and I haven't had a MC for a while. I tend to like the cigar I'm smoking best so I went with the P2. Both have 'wowed' me at at times so it's really a matter of circumstance and the individual cigar. 6
Popular Post gormag38 Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 This one is a tough choice honestly. I went with P2 as the winner though; just purely because of the duds I've had with Monte 2s. Cream of the crop Monte 2 would likely take the cake over a top of the line P2. With that being said the last few Monte 2s I've smoked have been very mediocre (across different codes/years nonetheless). I've got a 2021 box of PSP or HQ Monte 2s that I have yet to crack though; perhaps I will to compare with my 2021 box of P2s that have been lights out good since they've arrived. 5
Popular Post LizardGizmo Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 This one is really difficult. I love the P2, but I think the Monte takes this one for me. I have had ups and downs with both, but the Monte has had higher highs over the last couple of years - and maybe lower lows. Although, I think I'd take a perfect Monte 2 over a perfect P2. 6
Popular Post Boxer31 Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 So far the P2 from 2015 is my best cigar for last 12 months, the 2015 M2 was close but P2 was a cut above. Rationing the remaining sticks from those boxes. Close third is the Dip 2. 6
