Got the family on a plane back home to spend a good few weeks with their grandparents & cousins, and just unwind from school and work. Work email autoreplies on, Easter lunch plans formulating, drafting a speech for a wedding towards the end of the trip, but first thing on the agenda is a trip to the Gabba to hopefully make some Collingwood fans disappointed…

I'm looking forward to our family gathering on Easter Sunday.

I'm hoping that the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs win their first six games of this NRL season on Friday. They've only done this once in their history (in 1938 when they were minor premiers and won the competition). It is expected that the game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs will break attendance records with a crowd over 60000.

The Bulldogs have won their first 5 games five times in their history and each time they did so they were either minor premiers or reached the grand final (or both). The 2023 Brisbane Broncos won their first 5 games of that NRL season and they too reached the grand final.

It's just nice to see a team go from the worst defensive unit in the competition to the best within the space of 30 games over two seasons. That's quite some feat from their coach, Cameron Ciraldo (and the players, of course!).

No Easter celebrating here as we will be on the road back to MN after being gone all winter. Looking forward to getting home and hanging out with the grandsons.

First round of golf on Friday. Saturday drive to central Illinois for lunch with my mother-in-law, Sunday dinner at my sister’s house. We’ve been tasked with bringing dessert. For me, nothing says Easter like a canned-frosting covered lamb cake with a jelly bean face. Thus, the first argument of the holiday weekend has begun. 🤣

Having a friend come over on Sunday. Bought a lamb leg yesterday that I'll cook. It was 9lb which is way too much for the 3 of us. I hope to cut some off before I prep it and vacuum seal/freeze for future use. I think I can take off 1lb without it looking too butchered. May just leave it as is and expect my friend to take a lot of leftovers home.

Wife is "so-so" on lamb and doesn't like lamb leftovers. I can eat lamb every day. Will serve with a Musar red. Seems fitting to drink a wine from the general region of Jesus. I have a few Israeli wines but save them for when I am invited to a Jewish home and it needs to be kosher.

Celebration of Jesus' resurrection isn't much of a celebration over here.. 🫠

Wife and kid are in Europe for traditional orthodox Easter. I’m finishing a stretch of 2 weeks of work and looking forward to grilling something, some bourbon and a few cigars with just me and the dog.

it’s become an Easter tradition to cook a brisket and make potato salad. I love a good slow cooked lamb but my wife will not eat it unless she it totally in the mood which is rare.

Was able to cut off 1.24 lb off the top of the leg and it still looks perfect!

My wife will definitely drink the Musar though! One of our favorites, I ordered an older bottle on one of our first dates, cannot remember what vintage but she still talks about it. Good Easter pick. Cheers!

What vintage would you go for?

A day at a farmers market today. My aunt and uncle invited us for Easter tomorrow. Going to gorge myself on Italian goodies. Gym on Monday.

The Boston Marathon confines me on Monday. The route is a choke point for us to travel. I rode about 10 miles of the route on my bike this morning to the start line. It's basically a downhill race all the way to finish line.

My wife works at a fabric store and will have to go in a few hours early on Monday or it would be impossible to get there.

The '18 is current release...I'd hold 16 & 17 or decant all day. My tastings have been spotty, lots of 80's & 90's years ago...looking at Janice R, 2008 & 2003 look like my style. The 98 and 94 were certainly something and have favorable recent reviews. 1974 is legendary. Is there a bad vintage for Musar? Not really, just different interpretations of the vineyard, M Hochar isn't going to put something substandard out with his name on it. I love the Arrak as well, but it will get you in trouble.

The newest vintage I have 2005 and several back to 1980. My guest is a fan of '99 and I don't think he's had '98 so I may go for that one. The newer vintage are less "funky" and I think in the run will be better. '99 is getting a little funky and still have two cases to go on that one. I met Sergei before he died and bought case of '04 or '05 at the time. I should have had him sign the bottles. Missed opportunity 😒
