Discord testing this week.

Steve (MoeFOH) and Ben are testing the Discord channel/server this week and we will get a few of you to assist us in polishing it off next week.  

Essentially, FOH Club Room for live vid. 

I will reach out next week for members to test

Imagine mIRC but with modern features in a live format. Voice chat for over 50 people at the same time, video conferences, being able to find information really easily. Private rooms for chat for admins, share images and videos with no hosting servers. Builds more casual activity rather than logging in once a week.

Agreed, except the find information really easily. Message boards are much easier to find past information. Discord is a chat service that is great for to the minute discussions...which get buried in the chat, eventually being removed/deleted.

Discord is a great idea. I'm 24 and I know for a fact that discord perms can get complicated def do your homework on the perms so people who are very discord savvy don't just make themselves admins and nuke the whole server. If you need any help lmk I'm discord fluent.

Discord is a application with servers. For example the FOH server. Within the server you can find voice channels and text channels. For example, a general text channel for everyone and anyone can see or speak in it or a hidden text channel where only people with the right permissions can see what goin' on. Same for voice channels. Now in voice channels you can have a unlimited amount of people all in one channel where you can speak with each other as well as stream your computer screen or turn on you camera. One big time thing is the ranks. There are ranks from admin down to a new member these can be created by the lead admin. Now you can create ranks with certain permissions so everyone in a specific rank can do these certain things or see hidden text channels that the rank below cannot do and it doesn't need to be linear. There are endless possibilities.

Nothing gets deleted, at least it is quite stable now - I can find info from 5 years ago in a discord server with 210k++ members.

Just to be clear, folks, this will be a Video-only Discord. No text topics, etc. Just a 24/7 video cigar lounge you can pop into, see who's hanging out, etc.

If you need any help with configurations I was a community manager for my university discord, admin for a 2500+ server, and am a dev who have made some lightweight discord apps (not my main job but side projects). Always willing to donate some time to a good group of friends.

If it's video only, it wont matter. But, for example, you can have new member role and I could have a vip role. With your role you can only see the main general chat and the lounge and welcome room. But with my role u would be able to see that plus more. Then someone with a better role than I can see way more or have access to certain abilities within the server, like muting people or timing someone out it goes on and on.

I am just learning how to copy and paste, so no I am not following. Beyond my skill set.

Great stuff 👍For those not sure, it's pretty much an app that operates very similar in layout to the forums from the 2000s. Just a vertical list of rooms/sections that you click on and then you're in that room to type or speak or video (Video in this case).

This sounds like a great idea. I for one am usually unable to make a set time work to join in on a live chat. Having something that would allow us to log in and join up with whoever is there is a solid idea. 

For those who are unsure/unaware of discord, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the ease of use. Sounds like FOH is only doing it for herf sessions right now so it should be pretty basic and intuitive for how to use. In it's full form it would basically be a different way to layout a forum. (E.g. Recent CC buy would be a channel and all related posts would go under there. Cheap and Cheerful would be another channel, potentially with other groupings within it etc.)

That makes much more sense. Having a Discord channel to replace this board wouldn't be the best approach. The first time the channel is nuked (for just about any reason discord feels like), everything is lost. Not to mention finding anything in chat based text is horrible. Message board with topics, and replied within, is far superior. 

Discord is great for IRC chatting.

I'm sitting here just contemplating everyone else will be meeting at 2am. It'll be just me and @99call. Can you imagine!?
