jazzboypro Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Hello all, I need to buy sunglasses, i am a big fan of Serengeti and it's what I've been buying the pat 20+ years. Still want to buy them again but they are sold out at the moment. What are you guys buying ? I'm looking for something polarized and photochromic. Many thanks
El Presidente Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Serengeti fan here as well. I also own Wiley X for fishing/sports. https://www.wileyx.com/
targa88 Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 You might want to check out the sales on Oakley

El Presidente Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Just now, KCCubano said: Always worn Maui Jim for fishing. They have a Byron Bay model that is now on my radar. Have owned and enjoyed Maui Jim/Oakley/Costa Del Mar sunglasses for fishing. All very good lenses at the top end. WIley X is the same quality lens at the top end at a lower price point. Fishing....I lose about two sets of sunglasses a year. 2
MagicalBikeRide Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 I find myself always retuning to Ray Bans. Enjoy the price / quality / style balance. If @El Presidente loses two sets per year fishing, my younger self lost two sets per year in beer gardens…. 1 1
vladdraq Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Maui Jim "Compass", not photochromic though.
jazzboypro Posted November 23, 2023 Author Posted November 23, 2023 I lost two pairs at sea also. Been looking at most popular brands but unless I'm missing something i did not see anything so far that compares to Serengeti CARRARA 8297
Nevrknow Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Maui Jim. Need to go find the model but my pairs have the tight fitting wire frames that hug my head so I don't lose them when I gun full throttle.
Fuzz Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I'm no help here. I've been wearing the same style of sunglasses for years, Oakley Juliets since 2004, and Oakley X-Squared since 2013. All I've done is switch out the lenses when they got worn out. 1

Can I interest you in a trade for some “they must be real” BHK 56 and “don’t fit me” lizard boots?rushman 3
Lfhard Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 My vote is for Maui Jim’s. I have a few pairs with different lenses and love them all.
Ford2112 Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I've owned smith, mauis, costas, ray bans, etc. My current are high end Costas . Great fishing glasses for my needs. I had a pair of Maui that were the best I ever owned years ago and left them on a counter of a place I painted.
jazzboypro Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll wait for the Serengeti to be back in stock.
SigmundChurchill Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I have been collecting sunglasses by a company called Jacques Marie Mage. It still sounds weird to me to “collect” sunglasses, but with this company, that’s what a lot of people do. The designs are inspired by sunglasses worn by famous people. Like, my favorite two pair in my little collection are called The Enzo, and the Kubrick. Enzo was named for Enzo Ferrari because the design was based on his sunglasses, and The Kubrick is the same, only with Stanley Kubrick. There is also The Fitzgerald (JFK), The Gonzo (Hunter S Thompson), The Cash (Johnny Cash), etc, etc, etc. Their prices aren’t for the faint of heart. But I believe they are the most well made sunglasses out there. The company is located in Los Angeles, but their factory is in Japan. https://www.jacquesmariemage.com/shop/sunglasses 1
BrightonCorgi Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 My parents' house in 100 yards from at least 6 fancy sunglasses stores in Falmouth, MA. I have tried every major brand on the market. I've noticed the quality to be similar among brands at a same price point. Whether you're buying Ray Ban or Buying Oliver Peoples & Cartier... You need to try them on and see what style of lens do you like. Different tints and contrasts. Obviously the look of the whole sunglasses on your face is quite important too. Maui Jim or Revo are safe bets. My wife has the Maui Jim and I have Revo's. Both have terrific optics and solid frames. My wife's lenses have a cooler grey tint and Revo's are warmer. I am not a fan of the cooler shade tint. She is not such a fan now after a few years of them. I love the Revo polarized currently wear. I was between that pair & Marc Jacob's. The Revo's fit me better. 1
Hemclas Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Smith Optics with the Ignitor lens for cloudy days.
joeypots Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I‘m a prescription guy. Never was comfortable with contacts or surgery so I get frames at the optometrist. Right now I’m loving Ovvo Optics with dark grey polarized lenses.

Lomey Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 My favorite pair is Oliver Peoples, but I have quite a few Ray Bans and a pair of Maui Jim that I really like. If exercising outside I have a pair of Oakley's that I'm not worried about falling off my face. Can't have to many pairs of sunglasses in my opinion. 1
jakebarnes Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Oakley Holbrook for general. Oakley Sutro Lite for running and biking.
