mbflash80 Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 This popped up on another board that doesnt have as much traffic...the statement that was made was that empirical evidence would lead us to believe that Siglo 5 is not and has not been rolled at El Laguito for a very long time...maybe more than a decade. I personally cannot recall seeing a box or tubo that was EL rolled. Please feel free to contribute your experience and if you have any Sig 5s that are EL rolls please by all means let us know! Thanks, MB 1
Jimmy_jack Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 I was waiting for this lol. It’ll be good to figure out.
Popular Post JohnS Posted June 27, 2021 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2021 I would surmise the following in regards to this question: The Partagas 8-9-8 and Cohiba Siglo V are the last dalias (i.e. 43 ring gauge x 170 mm or 6¾ inches in length) in regular production. Both vitolas are produced on a limited basis, judging by availability in the past few years. The release of the Asia-Pacifico Regional Edition Punch 8-9-8, also a dalia, in late 2019 saw a hiatus in stock of Partagas 8-9-8 and Cohiba Siglo V The Partagas 8-9-8, Cohiba Siglo V and Punch 8-9-8 Regional Edition have all shared the 'LMB' factory code. I have also seen the Cohiba Siglo V with a 'REG' factory code but never an El Laguito 'MAR' one. As we know, there a variety of Cohiba vitolas and even the Partagas Serie E No.2 that have been produced with an El Laguito factory code of late. 7 2

AME was the code for La Corona from late 2012 to early 2014 (replaced by EML). I myself haven’t seen 898s rolled at La Corona. MSU is the Partagas factory so that makes sense they’d roll 898. I saw a lot of Talismen from Partagas but not many other Cohibas. I like the original poster’s question. My s5 are from RAE which was a stunning provincial factory during 2014-2015. I’ve never been able to pinpoint its transition exactly but I’m 80% sure it’s the REG factory. Some nice Cohibas from REG of late. CCEs for sure. And - to continue this - I’ve never seen a CCE rolled at El Laguito. 2

That’s before my code knowledge starts. I have no clue what EL was back then. I’m sure you’re right. Damn - that sounds like a nice trade! 1

This got me curious. I checked all code records from 2012 and it seems there may be a connection between Dalias. RAE rolled a lot of both in 14 and 15. OPG and LAU for 898 in 15 & 16 and LAU MAY 17 for Siglo V. 898 takes a hiatus in 16 and I then see a UBM OCT 17 and then lots of UBM Siglo V A/T 15s and a few 25s. It appears 898 and Siglo V do share codes more often than expected. I guess all the Dalias molds are in two or three factories... 5 1

Found one on FOH: Edit: reference to some MEL ones:
Bri Fi Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Not sure if this is helpful but My partagas 898 from 2018 is factory REG. 1
Popular Post ATGroom Posted June 27, 2021 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2021 Can confirm no MAR codes for Siglo V in the CCW db. Since 2017 there have been boxes from LMB, REG, UBM, LAU, and SOP. For 8-9-8 in the same period there are MTS, LMB, REG, TLE, GOS, UBM, LAU, and SOM. I have heard before of sizes for special releases being changed last minute because the moulds for the intended size were not available at the factory that was to do the rolling. Each factory probably only has a large number of sets of moulds for the most generic sizes. For less mass market sizes there are probably only sets at a few factories. The moulds can be transferred, but depending on how the schedules line up that may not be worth doing. For very obscure sizes that were only used in a particular humidor or similar, there is probably only one or two sets of moulds anywhere in the system. Kind of a "mother factory for size" system like there is for the brands. 6 3
Jimmy_jack Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Sooooo…what’s the consensus? They have been rolled at EL in the past…or no?

I don't think the OP ever questioned that they were EL rolled in the past. The statement was, "for a very long time...maybe more than a decade". Based on what I've read above, looks like it may be true that no one yet has seen an EL box of Vs after 2010 3 1

We should delete all but 3 or 4 of the responses. I don't know why everyone takes these threads as an opportunity to post every box code they've ever gotten, except for the ONE in question here. They may have been rolled at EL over the last Decade, but it appears no member(that's seen this thread at least) has a box to verify it. @Bartolomeo's 13 and 19 year old boxes are the most recent we can track. I think we would have found a box from the last decade by now, but they might be out there. It's interesting because I have Siglo III from Laguito, only 1 RG and 5/8" shorter than a Siglo V. You could theoretically use the same molds for both and just trim them short. 1 2
KCCubano Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 I just looked at a vendors recent box code list that has inventory back to 2018. No V's rolled at EL factory. 1
NSXCIGAR Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 9 hours ago, Chibearsv said: I don't think the OP ever questioned that they were EL rolled in the past Yes, EL was rolling almost all Cohiba until the late 90s although I recall a CA article in 1992 stating a large portion of Robustos and Esplendidos were being made at Partagas. https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/cubas-cohiba-7838 It seems like MEL 07 is pretty much the last Siglo V confirmed rolled at EL. It would be interesting to do a full analysis of unusual vitolas and factories to confirm these molds don't move. 3
