mprach024 Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Lol. I believed in plume for almost 20 years, I’m embarrassed about that now. In fact I used to wonder why I never got any plume on my cigars, what was I doing wrong? Turns out...nothing. 3

Mickey D Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I guess they need to fill the pages with information, good, bad and sad.
... Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Makes sense that they did not enabled commenting on the article page; that would be the wildfire referred to in the article 😜 1

Can also mean someone who gambles, makes risky investments, etc. But in the case above, yes, it means a customer.... but can also refer to a specific type of customer; one who is in search of some companionship for an hour or so... or maybe less... Isn't English a wonderful language? 1 4

And here I thought in merry ol' England, the word "punter" meant someone who propels a punt (flat-bottomed boat) with a wooden pole. Of course, Americans would think it is the dude who kicks the ball in NFL.... 1
Ryan Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 The usages for "punter" has expanded quite a bit though over the years. "Customers" is common now but there was a time when it referred almost exclusively to gamblers, especially at a horse track. "Take a punt on something", - gamble on an outcome etc. 1

Mickey D Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Not the first time I’ve have to inquire or look up the meaning of some British/Aussie type slang. Sometimes I literally laugh when learning the meanings. Fun stuff! 1
Nico Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Lol. I believed in plume for almost 20 years, I’m embarrassed about that now. In fact I used to wonder why I never got any plume on my cigars, what was I doing wrong? Turns out...nothing.I believed in it too. Everybody was talking about it so shouldn’t people believe it. Thing is I’ve had some crystal like substance on my BRC one time. It was after they been there for a few years. This was 8-9 years ago. But I remember looking at it carefully and it didn’t have any fluff in it like mold does. It was completely stale. Anyway, I wiped it off (and I actually have the cigars to this day.) I never seen mold like that, ever. So I don’t know what to believe. A very knowledgeable person here in Sweden says that plume exists.

The idea makes some logical sense, sugars crystallize, so I could see remnants in the oil crystalizing. But it’s hard to refute a lab testing substances under microscope and the results in every one were some version of a mold. Until I see someone who’s a scientist (not a cigar guy) who tested a substance and said “this is crystallized oils” I’m going to assume everything is mold. 2

PigFish Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 You should become familiar with the word charlatan. While it was fitting for the patent drug salesman from a bygone era, he (it) is represented mostly by mainstream media, those that own mainstream media, network marketing media, and host of those wish to sell things, including information, products and political policy based on anything but the facts! It certainly exists the cigar community in general. If facts were requisite for a cigar industry sale, nothing would be sold! MHO...! I have spent years debunking cigar myth, mainly storage practices. It is like trying to cool a volcano with a garden hose! -Piggy .... what was I saying about charlatans??? Say anything you want, except possibly the truth and get banned, have your feed shut due to 'truth in media policies', link the buyer to Amazon. Get paid. 1
La_Tigre Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 We assumed punter was some Queen’s English version of tire kicker. It fits the context.
