A couple gifts from last night's herf. You might not be familiar with the odd looking beast on the right (I had never heard of it before yesterday), it's a Spanish puro from the brand Canalenos called Pata de Caliqueno. The HPC smells very good! Isn't it Pata de elefante? I used to smoke some Pata de Elefantes and Caliqueños mid day with a coffee when visiting family in Spain many years ago. The tobacco was locally grown and you would go to the local bar and buy them. If you bought a whole pack they would just be rolled up in yesterday's newspaper. I remember them being really strong. 1

I don't have a lot of information about those but the name of the man in charge, Ximo, or so I was told. They're labelled Pata de Caliquenos (sorry I can't find the tilde 😅) but they could really well be the same cigar we're talking about. I'll get back to you when I smoke it👍 3

Popular Post Dadof3 Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 Picked up a handful of PLPC some Vegueros Manantias and PSD4. Nothing exciting but some consistent favorites along with a size and brand I had not tried before. They are resting comfortably for now. 6
Popular Post Chitmo Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 Fell a** backwards into these…partial box, but the price was very reasonable. 16 1

I had a lot of these boxes in storage with our gracious host for a number of years, so they've rested for some time. As I open them every now and then, I take photos for reference purposes for our forum members to see what these long-term aged cigars look like, and post them here. 8 3

I've never seen this before I do it with all my cigars, I stack them 3-4 boxes high in my humidor. In my head it gives space between boxes for air flow, not sure if it actually helps or not but it makes me feel better. They’re just cork pads from the hardware store, typically they used to cushion cabinet doors so they don’t bang when closing them. 14 1

Popular Post WestCoastSmokin Posted April 22 Popular Post Posted April 22 Bought a box two years ago and split between a few friends. I ended up smoking most of mine and greatly regretted ever splitting the box. Took me awhile but finally I got my own box. The best part is it came directly from FOH! 15

So these ended up Being a weird one. I got them with 4 other boxes from someone I’ve purchased from in the past so I didn’t look at them as closely as I would if they’d been from a new source. The verification code came back as Edmundos, they smelled like Cubans and the caps looked right so I suspect they may be farm rolls someone that worked in the factory put together. However the bands on the cigars were discontinued in 2012 and the box was dated 2013. The factory code doesn’t show up in any sources I can find and there’s a spelling error on the box itself. All worked out, he was good about it and happy enough to refund my money with no trouble. Happy it all worked out this time. Sure is a lesson in buying the seller though. 10

I think in Cuba it usually goes like this that they will use old bands even if they are officially discontinued. I‘ve had that happen on boxes that were definitely real like LGC M4, where they used bands that were discontinued years ago. The factory code might be the bigger issue here, but also I'm no expert in identifying fakes. 3
