Popular Post MoeFOH Posted December 30, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 30, 2019 What would be your pick? I'd have to plump for Joker... supremely well-achieved in all facets. A stunning performance by Joaquin. 6
99call Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 I don't think anything will beat the Joker, but looking forward to 1917, if it lives up to the trailer, should be a belter 3
inter4alia Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 I hated Joker, with a passion. The only reason I didn't walk out was because I was with a friend who really wanted to see the movie. For reference I have disliked many movies but have never walked out on one before, ever. When Joker was over, my friend told me he would have walked out if he wasn't with me. Go figure. Several people walked out of the theater where I saw the movie. The Irishman was the best movie I saw, but there are many left from 2019 I still need to see. 4

Popular Post Buck14 Posted December 30, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 30, 2019 I don’t go to the movie theatre anymore because I hate other people, so my scope is limited to those flicks that have found their way to the home market. I concur with @inter4alia on The Irishman. It has received what I believe to be some unfair criticism. Yes it should have ended 30-40 minutes sooner and yes it was ridiculous see an actual 80 year old Deniro playing a 40-something dad beating the shit out of a grocer who grabbed his daughter. This is 100% on Scorsese. That was a ridiculous scene and he should have used a younger actor and just shot it from behind. I liked the de-aging other than that scene. Those two fairly insignificant elements aside, The Irishman is easily the year’s best film. It is Joe Pesci’s finest work and a level of acting from him I’ve never seen before. It was also an incredible performance by Anna Paquin as Deniro’s daughter who acted with extremely limited lines as the all knowing, ashamed daughter - fantastic performance. I am ashamed though of the fake outrage crowd that unintelligently ripped her wonderful performance because she didn’t have enough lines. More dialogue would have undermined the power of her performance. 5
MIKA27 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Best movie by way of acting, composition, direction and also anticipation for me was easily "Joker" Best movie for action... John Wick 3 4

Until someone opens a cinema, where people that speak through films, eat noisily through films, use their phone through films......watch other films.....through films!!, are all electrocuted through their chairs.........i'll continue not to bother 1 1
Hammer Smokin' Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Best movie I watched in 2019 was The Irishman. 1
Colt45 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Haven't seen a ton of 2019's, and there are still a few I'd like to see, but the first that comes to mind is Ad Astra. A few that I enjoyed / held my attention were Running With The Devil, Anna, 6 Underground, The Hustle, The Courier.

Ryan Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Liked "The Irishman", Thought Pesci was great in it. I enjoyed "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". I thought it was lovely to look at, well most of it.. My two favourites Korean film "Parasite". Great stuff. I've liked Korean films since "Oldboy" Irish Horror film "The Hole in the Ground". The ending a little rushed but great acting out of Seána Kerslake. 3

Ken Gargett Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 hands down, no question, best movie of the year, daylight second, third and fourth - 'Blinded By The Light'. 1

Love Korean films, Parasite was brillinat. I highly recommend I SAW THE DEVIL if you like Korean flicks. Absolutely brutal. 1

JohnS Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 My favourite thus far, in no particular order, have been Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Farewell, Parasite and Knives Out. 1

Expand I had a few friends recently lament the latest Star Wars offering and Kathleen Kennedy, the producer and Rian Johnson, the director were mentioned for the fiasco. I mentioned Knives Out as the type of film that Rian Johnson directed and actually wants to do, so I'm elated that it's been a critical and box office success because he wants to do another one with Daniel Craig's character, the private detective Benoit Blanc. 1
Meklown Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Best movie of the year by a mile for me was Joker. Incredible scripting, acting performance, cinematography. I particularly liked the areas where they purposely left "open to interpretation", such as the birth records. On 12/30/2019 at 10:50 PM, inter4alia said: I hated Joker, with a passion. Expand I am curious to hear your thoughts as to why you hated it? Separately, I have also not seen several films released in 2019 (Irishman for example). I also don't think Rise of Skywalker is as bad as many reviews say - similar to Game of Thrones, I don't think that it would be possible to create an "ending" that satisfied anyone.
Riverstyx Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 I’m a simpleton that yearns for the revenge flicks of the 80s. Rambo for me. liked Irishman, once upon a time dragged on, and I haven’t seen joker...yet. 1
irratebass Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Joker & Doctor Sleep are my best of's (Tie) 2nd would be Once Upon A Time In Hollywood & 3rd The Irishman
Puros Y Vino Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Haven't seen many movies this year. I've forgotten what I did see, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood does stand out for me. It was a fun watch. Haven't seen the Joker yet. I suspect that may have been one I wouldn't forget.
