JoeyGunz Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Because they're Jekyll or NC? All celophonae wrapped. 2
Bram Smoker Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Going to agree with JoeyGunz. A quick look at the Bible (Cuban Cigar Website) doesnt seem to show any Dips being cellophane wrapped. But other members might have more insight on these. 1
fitzy Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Until 92 most were in cellophane: ”Cellophane sleeving of cigars commenced in Cuba in the mid-1930s and until c1992, most Cuban cigars (even Cohibas) were available in cellophane sleeves.” https://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/packaging/information more importantly how much are they and can I have all the no 3’s lol 2
Hadroxity Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Judging by the pic this is in Malaysia, the price on the label, RM 56 would suggest this converts to about $13.41 USD per No. 3. 1
99call Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 If that shop wants to sticker up every cigar with an individual barcode, I guess they need someone to cello sleeve them all up as well. If it was done, it would of been done by the shop themselves. Smoking one would let you all you need to know. Cloning the flavour profile of an old dip, would be near impossible. 3
bbguardsp Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 As someone who manages a retail shop - it's not uncommon for customers to come in who want to sell old stock (quit smoking, relative who passed away, need the money etc). That is one possibility that came to mind anyway 1
SenorPerfecto Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Buy 2 of each and I'll reimburse you. I'll take the risk. 1
JohnS Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I'd agree that it is uncommon to see a vendor cellophane wrap stock. Then again, as @bbguardsp mentioned, there is that possibility that the retailer has taken an extra step in personally cellophane wrapping stock. If in doubt, buy 1 stick and smoke it for yourself and report back. At least you'd satisfy your curiosity! ?

Lotusguy Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 @wilcz - I believe he lives in Malaysia. My take is that they are trying to protect the cigars. In the Netherlands every single sold in retail has to have an extra tax band so it’s not unheard of that boxes need to be opened and something applied (band, label, cello). I wouldn’t automatically call these fake. I’ll take a box/ea of the #3 and #4, please
Derboesekoenig Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Holy mother of god batman. Yeah I'd take the leap and buy at least one of each. Or at least ask to take one out of cellophane. Box codes???
Connoisseur Kim Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Like others said, Andy04 might be in Malaysia since these Diplomaticos cigars are priced in RM. I lived in Malaysia for almost 10 yrs, and I've never seen CCs being wrapped in cellophane like NCs! 1
NSXCIGAR Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 So how could you not buy one and try it? A possible motherlode if they are genuine...
GavLew79 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I guess nobody's clocked the spelling and font differences yet?... Faker than my £7 note. 2
Lotusguy Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I guess nobody's clocked the spelling and font differences yet?... Faker than my £7 note. I have PL Montecarlo and Monte-Carlo. There are pictures of Partagas Miller Fleurs. Anything is possible Maybe the OP can provide more details?

Single cigars can only be sold in tubos or cellophane - and only if they originally came like this. Ridiculous, IMO.

So for me old mate they sing a fake tune or two . Should be triple that. My two cents only .

Andy04 Posted September 10, 2019 Author Posted September 10, 2019 Apologies for the slow response. They are at a duty free shop in Labuan, a small tax free Malaysian island near Brunei. Every stick in the shop from an open box is individually shrunk wrapper. I have never seem that before and it was a pain in the butt removing the wrap. Malaysian seem to go for Cohiba and not much else. The shop is stocked with 2015-2017 box codes of HDM, Monte etc and some other really bizarre boxes like old HU and Cuaba LE's. This seller has 2 suppliers that he sources from. 1 seems legitimate with all boxes having box codes/barcodes etc that all check out, the other supplier's bixes has many of the barcodes cut off, so for the Diplomaticos as I couldn't confirm the authenticity I didn't purchase. Instead I went for the last few of his 3 packs of Trinidad Robusto Extra.

Any one of the three would raise flags......but perhaps a reasonable explanation. The chances of all three occurring? Buckleys. I have seen fake Dips before in Hong Kong and Singapore. Someone is well into their production.
